NZ G1winner to be trained in Sydney

New Zealand Group One winner Ugo Foscolo will join the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott in Sydney following a change in his ownership.

Trained by Stephen Marsh to win five of his six starts including the 2000 Guineas, Ugo Foscolo will be raced by in a partnership headed by prominent breeder Kevin Hickman and Todd Bawden.

Hickman is also a part-owner of Ugo Foscolo’s sire Zacinto who stands at his stud, Valachi Downs.

“There had been a lot of interest in Ugo Foscolo from a lot of places and Kevin wanted to ensure the horse was keeping Group One company in Australia for the stallion,” Valachi Downs manager Jonathan Scully told NZ Racing Desk.

“As far as Kevin is concerned it’s about making sure that Ugo Foscolo gets every possible opportunity.”

Hickman and Bawden previously shared in the ownership of the gelding with Lib Petagna, Tony Muollo, Patrick O’Rourke and Rhoda Phillippo.

“The Australian Guineas is a likely target and longer term we’re hoping to get through to the Cox Plate,” Scully said.
