Nature Strip set to return in Group 3 Concorde Stakes
Nine-year-old Nature Strip is set to make his return to the track this Saturday, kicking off another exciting spring campaign under the guidance of trainer Chris Waller.
The seasoned Nicconi gelding, known for his prowess, has been nominated for the Group 3 Concorde Stakes (1000m) at Randwick, a race he clinched victory in back in 2021.
The Concorde Stakes serves as a pivotal stepping stone for potential contenders eyeing the prestigious $20 million prize in The Everest (1200m), scheduled to unfold over 1200m at Randwick on October 14.
Nature Strip’s participation in the Concorde is a litmus test, allowing the stable to gauge whether he can replicate his triumph in The Everest back in 2021.
Notably, Nature Strip faced formidable competition in the past. He secured a respectable fourth place in The Everest, trailing behind Giga Kick.
A similar outcome occurred in the Group 1 TJ Smith Stakes (1200m), where he placed fourth once again, this time against the likes of I Wish I Win and Giga Kick.
A recent trial win over 900m at Rosehill on August 22nd, under the guidance of jockey James McDonald, further showcased his readiness for the upcoming challenges.
Returning to defend his Concorde Stakes title is last year’s victor Eduardo.
Trained by Joe Pride, Eduardo’s journey in The Everest saw him finish in 11th. However, the Concorde Stakes remains a significant highlight in his career, standing as his most recent win.
A victorious trial over 807m at Warwick Farm on August 18 has heightened the anticipation surrounding his performance.

A gallop between races at Rosehill last Saturday ahead of her seasonal debut further emphasises her preparedness.
