The Concorde Stakes is a Group 3 race held at Randwick racecourse in early September each year and the race boasts a prize pool of $1,000,000.
The Concorde Stakes is run over 1000m and under Set Weights and Penalty conditions for open class horses.
After being exclusively run at Rosehill from 1990 to 2010, the Concorde Stakes was held at Warwick Farm for two years, before being run at Randwick from 2013 onwards.
From the first running of the event in 1990, the Concorde Stakes was classified as a Listed race, before being upgraded to a Group 3 in 1997.
Many sprinters over the years have kicked off their spring campaign in the Concorde Stakes. In 2017 and 2018, Redzel won the Concorde Stakes on his way to back-to-back Everest wins later in the spring, while Nature Strip also completed the double in 2021.
Notable winners of the race include Eduardo (2022), Nature Strip (2021), Gytrash (2020), Redzel (2017, 2018 & 2019), Decision Time (2011, 2013) and Guineas (1999).

- The well-supported I Am Me ($5.00) came with a withering burst to claim the $1 million Group 3 Concorde Stakes (1000m) at Randwick, stamping herself as a possible contender for The Everest (1200m) later in the spring. The Ciaron Maher-trained mare was first-up after a 119-day spell on Saturday, and with the daughter of I Am Invincible boasting an impressive first-up record of five starts for three wins and two more minor placings, she continued to add to her formidable fresh resume. Nash Rawiller was able to get on the back of the leader from barrier two, with Way To The Stars ($61.00) bowling along in front, with the James Cummings-trained Red Card ($15.00) sent forward under Adam Hyeronimus. Giga Kick ($4.60) was friendless in the market and ran accordingly, sitting on the three-wide line throughout the journey, with James McDonald unable to slot in for cover at any stage. Private Eye ($6.00) produced his usual late burst in the concluding stages, but it was the ever-consistent Bella Nipotina ($4.60) surging over the top with 200m left to travel. I Am Me simply got every favour in the end—thanks to Rawiller holding the rail until the last possible moment—and she clung on to victory as the pair cleared out significantly on the remaining rivals.
- Tyler Schiller has guided the Michael, Wayne & John Hawkes-trained Remarque to victory in the Group 3 Concorde Stakes (1000m) at Randwick. Having been $9 into a $4.20 second elect with online bookmakers, Remarque landed good bets in his narrow victory. Despite being forced to travel three wide with no cover up on speed, Schiller managed to get ever last bit of Remarque to hold off multiple Group 1 winner In Secret ($4.20) and Bella Nipotina ($6). Veteran Eduardo ($7.50) stuck on for fourth after leading the field up, but arguably the big talking point was Nature Strip, who faded badly to be well beaten after being forced to travel four wide with no cover. It was all the honours the winner though, as Remarque looks set for a fruitful spring campaign.
- Eduardo has joined the likes of Redzel and Nature Strip as winners of the Concorde Stakes, as he bolted in to win by more than 2.5 lengths in the 2022 edition at Randwick. After opening as an even-money favourite, Eduardo drifted out to as much as $3 to win the Concorde Stakes with online bookmakers, but he never looked like going under after sitting outside the leader for Nash Rawiller. Eduardo was able to beat the consistent Athelric ($12), while Handle The Truth ($31) closed well into third place.
- Nature Strip bucked his first-up trend in the Group 3 Concorde Stakes, coasting away to win by 2.5 lengths at Royal Randwick. The $1.50 favourite led from go to woe, defeating the well-supported Wild Ruler and two-time Group 1 winner Trekking in easy fashion under James McDonald. Even after a slow getaway from the barriers, Nature Strip led with ease and as the field rounded the home turn, his lead over Wild Ruler only grew as they neared the finish line. Going into the Concorde first-up, there were some queries about Nature Strip’s first-up record, but he put those worries to bed with a dominant win.
- South Australian star Gytrash ($5) knocked off the world’s premier sprinter Nature Strip ($1.45) in the Concorde Stakes at Randwick. Gytrash ran by Nature Strip over the final 50 metres to record a sizzling 55.81 seconds for the 1000-metre course at Randwick to be just outside of Redzel’s track record of 55.73s. Nature Strip, who was sent out a $1.45 favourite, was tested early as expected by Ball Of Muscle ($15) but he seemed set for victory as he shrugged him off inside the 200-metre mark. But then Gytrash hit top gear after slipping off the pace by a few lengths on the home turn, before bursting clear to beat Nature Strip, with Dirty Work ($10) in third place.
- Redzel ($7) showed punters he’s far from a spent force with a third-straight Concorde Stakes win at Randwick. Peter and Paul Snowden’s two-time Everest winner dashed straight to the lead and fended off the fast-finishing Pierata ($8) and an unlucky Graff ($9) to post his first win since October last year. Redzel made history with the win, becoming the first horse to win the Concorde Stakes three times in it’s short history.
