TRAINER Benjamin Smith isn’t getting carried away with the win from Dream Charge at Newcastle on Saturday, but it was hard not to be impressed.

The two-year-old daughter of Dream Ahead toyed with its rivals in the Tyrrell’s Wines Maiden Plate and the future certainly looks bright for the filly, but Smith won’t throw it in the deep end too early.

“At this stage we’ll run her at Warwick Farm in two and a half weeks, there’s a nice 2YO No Metro Win 1100m down there,” Smith told HorseBetting.com.au. “We’ll give her a go there and then we’ll see how we go.”

All going well at Warwick Farm (July 19) Smith plans to send Dream Charge to the Melbourne spring carnival where it could contest some of the undercard features.

Ladbrokes sign up special

“If she can go well we’ve got options for Melbourne possibly, nothing outstanding, just keep her in restricted grade,” Smith said. “But she’d have to run well next start to warrant anything like that.”

Smith is all too weary of the inconsistencies that two-year-olds possess and he’s keeping a steady head about the future with Dream Charge.

“We might give her a couple of weeks off (following Warwick Farm). We don’t want to over-touch her too much,” Smith said.

“She’s just starting off and they can easily go shin shore or go off the boil quickly.

“She hasn’t suggested that, but you never know with young horses.”

Smith said the $42,500 Inglis Sales purchase has pulled up well after its win and he believes he has a professional race horse on his hands.

“She was good, she was pretty professional and she got the job done,” he said. “She goes out every morning and does her work and comes home and eats and rests.

“She’s got some nice attributes there.

“She has pulled up well and now we’ll head to Warwick Farm.”
