MARKET MOVERS REPORT – RANDWICK

Race 1: Assimilate ($4.20), from Dracarys and Gresham
There wasn’t much market action in the first at Randwick, given the smaller field and no clear standout saw odds stay relatively safe on all the runners in the race.

Race 2: Suncraze ($2.65), from Last Try Wins and Poor Corner
It was last chance saloon for Suncraze after punters were burnt six times in a row by second-placed finishes, but a late rally from $3.40 into $2.65 highlighted the show of faith in the three-year-old Third place getter Poor Corner firmed massively from $61 into $41 and delivered a nice return for place players.

Race 3: Memes ($4.20), from Clipper and Sangiovesse
The ultra-consistent Memes was a surprising drifter in the market despite winning five of its last seven races and never missing a placing. After opening at $3.90 the filly was moved out to $4.20 before the jump but delivered for its backers.

Race 4: Salerno ($34), from Cudabeen and Pro Consul
The first double-figure winner of the day came in the fourth race of the day. Favourite Super Too put in a shocker of a run which opened the door for an outsider and Salerno duly provided the upset, defying a mammoth drift from $15 to what was the biggest price of the day at $34.

Race 5: Argent D’Or ($10), from Spending To Win and Chatuchak
Favourite backers were left reeling once again after a huge push for Spending To Win ($4 into $1.95) failed to pay off. The winner of the race drifted slightly in the market from $8 to the eventual winning price of $10.

Race 6: Sound Proposition ($3.60), from Loyalty Man and Jacquinot Bay
Punters came hard for the second placed horse in the sixth Loyalty Man, hammering the horse from $8 into $3.80 but the plunge failed to pay off. The consistent favourite throughout betting was Sound Proposition, which delivered for its investors.

Race 7: Boss Lane ($9), from Petrossian and Felines
Not much action in the third last race of the day after Boss Lane failed to budge from its opening quote. Petrossian came in from the $11 quote into $6 but failed to deliver a return in the field after Magic Alibi was scratched from the race, leaving just seven runners.

Race 8: Kings Of Leon ($1.95), from Last Witness and Torpenhow
The biggest go of the day came in the penultimate at Randwick as HorseBetting.com.au favourite Kings Of Leon came in from $3.40 to salute at $1.95. Belero King ($4.60 into $2.90) was the only other runner to jump in single figures but the second elect failed to place.

Race 9: Pelethronius ($7), from Invincible Knight and Francesco
The last race in Sydney was a fizzer in terms of market moves after both horses that filled the quinella positions barely shifted from their opening quotes. Francesco experienced a late drift from $7.50 to $16 but still managed to round out the placings.

Horse to follow from Rosehill: Suncraze
It is been a long-time coming for Suncraze, but the horse seems to declared itself as a horse of the future after it shed the bridsemaid tag in emphatic fashion. We may not see the horse again until the the more serious racing begins later in the year after trainer Melanie O’Gorman declared she’d like to win the Everest.

MARKET MOVERS REPORT – FLEMINGTON

Race 1: Riyadh ($11), from Electric Fusion and Gervais
Riyadh delivered for punters who maintained the faith after the $7 chance drifted to $11. The second and third placed horses remained close to their opening quotes.

Race 2: Dulverton ($11), from Diapason and Hell And Highwater
No big moves in the second race on the card as all three place getters maintained close to their opening quotes.

Race 3: Anchor Bid ($1.40), from Justice Faith and Think Diamonds
The short-priced favourite Anchor Bid dominated the market from the moment they opened to the jump of the race and subsequently did not budge too much from the $1.60 price.

Race 4: Portman ($2.10), from Orient Line and Rebellious Lord
Portman was already a heavy favourite in the market at the $3.10 quote, but the popular horse was crunched into $2.10 prior to the jump and delivered for its backers. The second and third placed horses stayed close to their opening marks throughout the day.

Race 5: Lovani ($8.50), from Jamizah and Balcazar
Best tote backers were overjoyed with Lovani’s run given doubled its opening fixed odds quote after opening at $4.20. It was an interesting late drift for the horse given the field was wide open and no horse was shorter than $3.80.

Race 6: Play Master ($31), from Kirani and Divine Mr Artie
Punters who maintained their faith in Play Master following a long-time out of the winner’s cricle were rewarded with a huge dividend of $31 after opening at $20. Divine Mr Artie firmed at the jump into outright favourite but only managed third.

Race 7: Pacodali ($4.40), from Master Zephyr and Killarney Kid
In a race that had multiple chances according to the market Pacodali shaved one point of its opening quote. The big drifter in the race was the third placed Killarney Kid, which doubled its price from $5 to $10.

Race 8: Swampland ($8), from Moonlite Choice and Princess Of Queens
The consensus prior to race eight at Flemington was that Swampland could be competitive in the race but probably would concede to Moonlite Choice. The opposite was the case however as the $11 into $8 winner came off the favourite’s back to run it down right on the line.

Race 9: Hay Bale ($8.50), from Tahi and I’m Telling Ya
The final race of the day did not see any massive market movers as Hay Bale saluted at $8.50 after opening at $10. The second placed Tahi was the best backed runner in the field after it firmed into $4 after beginning at $7.50, but failed to win the race.

Horse to follow from Caulfield: Swampland
It had been a luckless few starts for Swampland despite the last-start win prior to Saturday, but the emphatic nature of the win highlighted just how far this horse can go. The three-year-old filly has now won three of its ten starts and has missed the places just a trio of times. There is no reason to think group glory could be beyond the Kiwi import.

MARKET MOVERS REPORT – DOOMBEN

Race 1: Snapchat Girl ($4), from Real Princess and Arrestar
Snapchat Girl opened the Doomben card as the $2.60 favourite across all totes but drifted throughout the week and eventually settled on $4 prior to the jump. Top tote investors were happy with their bests after the favourite duly saluted and delivered close to double the opening quote.

Race 2: Stanley ($9), from Loving Home and Our Brilliant Jet
The market did not fluctuate too much in the second race on the card as Stanley, which opened at $11, came in slightly to the winning mark of $9. The fellow place getters drifted ever so slightly but still kept close to their original mark.

Race 3: Hingus Rose ($7.50), from Umberto and Calligrapher
One of the best plunges of the day landed in the third race on the card at Doomben after Hingus Rose was slammed from $20 into $7.50 before the jump. It was the opposite for second placed Umberto, which drifted from the $7.50 quote out to $15.

Race 4: Khalama ($2.30), from Progressive Saga and Tycoon Ace
Punters nailed the market once again in the fourth race on the card after Khalama saluted following a late firm into $2.30. The mare opened at $5.50 and was subsequently crunched throughout the week and into Saturday, where it delivered for investors.

Race 5: Backslapper ($2.60), from Malvern Estate and Lady Cromac
For the third straight race punters found the right elect after Backslapper firmed in from $9.50 into $2.60. What is interesting to note however was the number of scratchings which contributed to the market. Three single figure runners were omitted from the race, and punters climbed aboard the winner.

Race 6: Sunny Victory ($9.50), from Charlie Boy and Notonyourlife
Sunny Victory was considered an outsider when markets opened but punters backed it in to $9.50 and it saluted to reward that faith. Other than the winner, most other runners that were in the frame stayed close to their opening marks.

Race 7: Crack Me Up ($4), from Cruising Speed and Pindan Pearl
Crack Me Up opened as the short priced favourite across the board but Sheiswhatsheis firmed all the way through, which pushed the original favourite out to a generous price. The former one and the latter did not place, completely defying the market.

Race 8: Cornrow ($8), from Yaba Dabi Doya and Monster Of Energy
No major moves in the market in the penulimate race on the card as Cornrow saluted at close to the odds it opened. Both Yaba Dabi Doya and Monster Of Energy only deviated slightly from their opening quotes also.

Race 9: Care To Think ($2.50), from Rhyming and Sharpamal
Care To Think sent favourite backers home happy after firming slightly from its $3.70 opening quote into $2.50 prior to the jump. Both Rhyming and Sharpamal came in prior to the commencement of the race and rewarded punters for their faith.

Horse to follow from Sunshine Coast: Crack Me Up
It is anyone’s guess why the Kiwi export failed to maintain favouritism in Saturday’s Tatt’s Mile but its backers do not care after it saluted. It was the second win in a row for the galloper which now looks to be versatile enough to win under various conditions following the victory from a wide gate.
