Market movers and fluctuations report for Rosehill and Doomben

Crownbet market movers

SPRING racing is just around the corner and the punters were hitting their early carnival straps at Rosehill and Doomben on Saturday.

The abandonment of Caulfield which featured the Bletchingly Stakes was a real shame for punters, but the big bets still rolled in at the other two venues and punters would have been happy with the results across the board.

Rosehill featured plenty of well-backed runners taking home the chocolates and although Doomben featured many long-odds chances at the head of the field, many of them had attracted good interest in the betting markets.

Rosehill market movers report

Race 1: D’Argento ($1.80), from Runaway and Almighty

After opening at $3.40, D’Argento was smashed into an odds-on quote and punters got off to the right start at Rosehill. Bookmakers had opened the previously unbeaten Hostwin Meraki as the $4.80 second favourite, but were forced to adjust that price to $9 come post time. Every other runner drifted in the market accordingly.

Race 2: Clear The Beach ($3.60), from Difficult To Get and Akasaki

Clear The Beach stayed around its starting price throughout betting with most of the money coming for the runner up. It flashed home, but was unable to get past the gritty winner. Rockafella was the noted drifter from $3.40 to $7.50 and it ran up to that drift.

Race 3: Arbeitsam ($3.80), from The Pharoah and Reach For Heaven

We expected more money to come for Arbeitsam, but the talented type remained solid in the market. There were mild moves for Reach For Heaven and The Pharoah, but this was a relatively quiet betting affair.

Race 4: Prada Miss ($4.80), from My Tagoson and Caesar’s Ghost

This was an interesting betting race with Prada Miss opening at $3.20, drifting out to $5.50 due to the support for Nic’s Vendetta, and then it was eventually backed in hard late to $4.80. It appears as though the bookmakers tested the punters to see if they would take the better odds, and they did. Nic’s Vendetta opened at $7 and closed at $3, but it was never a winning hope.

Race 5: Suspenders ($8), from Slumber Party and Faith’s Encore

Punters came for a few long shots in this with Suspenders being one of them. It was backed in from $11, but the biggest move came for I’m Imogen which opened at $17 and was smashed into $6.50. That money went to the wayside, but overall it was a good race for each way punters.

Race 6: Vaucluse Bay ($3.60), More Than Fabulous and Life O’Brien

Punters went bang and sent the bookmakers reeling after the sixth at Rosehill. Vaucluse Bay opened at ridiculous odds of $11 and was quickly bet into $2.90 when the first market adjustment was taken. The scratching of Arbeitsam did help with the move, but punters came away with full pockets. Life O’Brien attracted good support on an each way basis and paid a handy place price.

Race 7: Shiraz ($7), from Classic Uniform and Slightly Sweet

Loyal punters of Shiraz were rewarded with a good price of $7, but there wasn’t much action. Despite being the Winter Challenge, there wasn’t much exposed form to speak of and punters kept their wallets in their pockets on this occasion.

Race 8: Most Exalted ($17), from Wild ‘n’ Famous and Hetty Heights

Decent-sized betting moves came for Wild ‘n’ Famous, Mogador and Embley, but all came up short. Most Exalted caused the upset which could have excited bookmakers. Zara Bay was backed at odds, but failed to fire.

Race 9: Philosophy ($7), from Awoke and Elouera

Philosophy was a drifter from its opening price of $5. Awoke and Long Time Ago were the big firmers in the market with third placegetter Elouera starting the race as a $101 chance, despite showing glimpses of form throughout its career.

Horse to follow from Rosehill: Slightly Sweet

Slightly Sweet didn’t have everything go its way during the run and it still made impressive late ground. It’s one to follow throughout the rest of the Sydney winter and it could pay some juicy odds along the way.

Doomben market movers report

Race 1: Jadedfox ($8), from Finnomony and Deitch

It was a quiet opening to the day at Doomben. Deitch attracted some support as the favourite and winner Jadedfox opened at $11 and was backed in late to $8. Fair to say the bookmakers got the upper hand to kick off proceedings.

Race 2: Basara ($19), from Too Easy Bro and Perfect Rain

Punters didn’t fire on all cylinders in race two with Basara drifting from its opening price of $6 to an incredible $19. That’s one of the biggest drifts for a winner we’ve seen in awhile and it didn’t instil much confidence with punters. Perfect Rain added to a big trifecta at odds of $81.

Race 3: Stellarcraft ($15), from Misery and Siliqua

Misery was the best backed runner from $4.80 to $3.20, but it wasn’t able to see off the challenge from Stellarcraft, which got into the race off the ballot. It drifted from $11 to $15 and the day wasn’t improving for punters at this stage.

Race 4: Mr Epic ($3), from King Viv and Monteux

Punters righted the ship in race four as Mr Epic scored an overdue win. The Queenslander opened at $4.80 and was steadily backed into its starting price of $3. King Viv was the drifter at short odds, but overall it was a good bounce back performance from bettors.

Race 5: Ingeegoodbe ($11), from Pinolino and Tycoon Flutter

The big betting move on Pinolino almost came off, but it was Ingeegoodbe ($17 into $11) which proved too good. This was a spirited betting affair with multiple runners attracting attention, including the winner.

Race 6: Denbern ($6), from Sharpamal and Bergerac

The two favourites Rhyming and Winning Kiss were well-backed, but failed to come up trumps. Denbern also had support after opening at $8 and third placegetter Bergerac was specked at double figure odds.

Race 7: Meet And Greet ($3.60), from Kubis and Natural Black

Punters got back on track with Meet And Greet which opened at $5.50 and was backed late. Opening favourite Eat My Trust was an alarming drifter late in the piece and it did well to finish close up along the rails. All three runners in the placings started at single-figure odds which was a good result for punters.

Race 8: Oxford Poet ($3.80), from Inz’n’out and Outraged

Both Oxford Poet and Inz’n’out were popular in the market and they ran accordingly. Punters could have secured $6.50 for Oxford Poet when the markets opened due to the opening favourite, Aomen, drifting from $4.40 to $13.

Race 9: Prioritise ($2.70), from Oink and Mishani Sleuth

It was happy days for punters when Prioritise scored at $2.70 after opening at $6. The big push came early in the week and was sustained throughout. There were a number of scratchings, but punters came away with a good result and the well-backed Oink also featured in the money.

Race 10: Khaleesi ($17), from Neptune Palace and Marksfield

Despite Game Of Thrones being in full swing, there was a lack of support for the Mother of Dragons. Khaleesi was relatively untouched in the betting as money came for Backslapper and Powerful Saga.

Horse to follow from Doomben: Kubis

Kubis did well to finish as close as it did considering it was setting a hot tempo. It should give punters a reason to cheer this season.
