Mallyon aims for third 2400m Caulfield win

Katelyn Mallyon will chase her third 2400 metre-win at Caulfield in a week when she partners Go Dreaming in the Caulfield Cup.

Following her win in the Group Two Herbert Power Stakes aboard the Lloyd and Nick Williams-owned Assign on Saturday, Mallyon was victorious aboard stablemate Our Century in the Ladbrokes Up For The Challenge Handicap on Wednesday.

Mallyon will have her first Caulfield Cup ride aboard the Grant Kluske-trained Go Dreaming on Saturday.

Go Dreaming came up with barrier one for Saturday’s race and firmed from $301 to $101 following the draw.

“The horse is going to get every chance from one,” Mallyon said.

“It’s a great story and I’m just so thrilled to be a part of it.

“I haven’t spoken to Grant about how we’re going to attack Saturday’s race but hopefully I’ll just ride him where he’s comfortable and keep out of trouble.”

Mallyon again received praise from Nick Williams for her win on Our Century after rolling forward from a wide draw to race on the pace.

Kicking clear on the corner Our Century ($7.50) scored by a length from All I Survey ($31) with the $2.90 favourite Firenze a long head away third.

Our Century was having only his second start since running second to Hartnell, beaten a neck, in the Queen’s Vase at Royal Ascot in June 2014.

Hartnell has won three of his four starts this spring including the Group One Turnbull Stakes.

Williams explained Our Century had been off the scene since with an injury.

“It wasn’t a tendon. It was something weird he had wrong with him,” Williams said.

Williams said Our Century could head to the Bendigo Cup on October 26 or to the 3200m Sandown Cup on November 12.
