Ipswich races called off again
Trainers have asked for the Ipswich meeting be rescheduled as soon as possible after racing was abandoned for the second time in two weeks.
Stewards inspected the track at 6am on Wednesday and found while it was rated a heavy eight in most parts, a section of track past the winning post was again unsuitable for racing.
It is the second time in a fortnight the midweek meeting at Ipswich has been called off with the majority of the track soft to heavy but the 200m after the post sodden.
The secretary of the Queensland branch of the Australian Trainers’ Association Cameron Partington said his phone had lit up after the announcement.
“No kidding at last count I had 15 calls and they are still coming. We want this meeting either run Friday or transferred to another track later this week as soon as possible,” he said.
“The industry can’t afford for this to continue with loss of prize money and turnover. Something has to be done and done now.
“Really this is the last straw after what has being going on here.
“How can you call off a meeting when there has been virtually no rain overnight and it is a glorious day.”
Partington’s association and other industry groups have been heavily involved in protests against the government’s distribution of the Point Of Consumption tax.
Racing Queensland officials will again inspect the track on Wednesday afternoon with re-scheduling in mind.
