Glen Colless expects to be fit to ride

Group One-winning jockey Glen Colless is confident he will be fit to ride this week after taking ill at Eagle Farm.

Colless wasted to ride the promising Beloso at 54kg on Saturday before turning in a perfect performance to win on the three-year-old.

But Colless was distressed when he returned to scale and was treated for 30 minutes before standing down from his remaining mounts for the day.

Colless said it had been nothing serious and he was confident he would get a clearance to ride this week.

“It was just a combination of things. I hadn’t ridden for two weeks and I got down to 54 kilograms. I am fine,” Colless said.

Fellow jockey Tegan Harrison, who finished fourth in the senior riders’ premiership last season, was in fine form at Eagle Farm taking out an unusual double.

She rode Sky Limit to win in a driving finish and beat her male counterparts in the annual National Jockeys’ Day foot race down the straight.

It wasn’t until after the race Harrison revealed she had once been a competitive school sprinter.
