Foxbridge Plate at Te Rapa tips with full card form and odds
THE Group 2 Lisa Chittick Foxbridge Plate is on the cards at Te Rapa this Saturday and the major spring contenders are out in force.
Multiple group one winner and current Windsor Park Plate favourite Kawi is in action for Allan Sharrock and it heads a field which includes Coldplay, Perfect Fit and Mime.

Race 1 – Doug Hawkins 50th Birthday 3YO (1100m)
Sacred Rebel was a tough winner on debut at Te Rapa when fighting off the challenge from Karisto. The Raffles-owned three-year-old brings in plenty of expectations this spring and the son of Sepoy should be well-backed with bookmakers.
Felton Road had a mixed two-year-old season, but its first two wins were quality. The stablemate to Sacred Rebel scored over Bombard on debut and that form has been franked. It produced a strong finish in the Karaka Million before coming to the end of its campaign at Ellerslie last start. Expect a big effort fresh up.

Race 2 – SVS Veterinary Services R75 (2100m)
Youwantmore has been mixing its form this campaign, it’s dropping back from open handicap grade for this. The Robert Priscott-trained five-year-old was a stellar 7.3-length winner over Light em Up at new Plymouth prior to its last start and that signalled some serious ability. The heavy conditions should suit.
Hard To Be Humble finally broke through for another win last start at Hawera and it came by five lengths. The Janelle Millar-trained six-year-old mare hasn’t run out of the money in three starts at this distance and it should be finishing off strongly down the outside again.

Race 3 – Kiltannon Stables R65 (2100m)

Cosmic Storm went close at Te Rapa last start and it could go one better here. The Mark Forbes-trained five-year-old sat at the back of the field and came with a big run, but with Leith Innes in the saddle expect it to settle closer to the pace. It has ability and could provide some each way value.
Kokanee Gold caused a massive upset at $81 last start when beating Cosmic Storm and it could do it again. It gets some weight off its back and it produced a tough effort to score last start considering it travelled wide throughout. The repeat upset could be on the cards.

Race 4 – Jorja’s 14th Birthday R85 (1600m)
Wooden Edge isn’t the most consistent horse and it either wins or runs down the track. The Chris Wood-trained gelding has won six of its 13 starts with one placing and it didn’t handle the track last start despite owning a superior wet track record. It gets into this well on the weights at 54.5kg and that looks a winnable weight.
Kitaya is an eight-year-old which was unlucky to not win on this track last start and there is plenty to like going forward. The former Hong Kong runner ran well overseas and that form is typically good for this level, but it wasn’t won in quite some time.

Race 5 – Lisa Chittick Foxbridge Plate (1200m)

Coldplay would be the feel good story for this race as it’s owned by Lisa Chittick’s widower Gary Chittick. Coldplay rattled off three wins last preparation and although this distance isn’t ideal for the five-year-old, it did look good in a recent trial at Te Teko. It will carry plenty of each way money with bookmakers.
Kawi has drawn awkwardly in barrier 14, but it’s the class of this field and must be included. The seven-year-old winner of over $1.1 million has good fresh up form and the experience of taking on some of Australia’s best in the Railway Stakes and Kingston Town last preparation. $4.50 is a good price, but it will need luck.

Race 6 – BCD R75 (1400m)
Highlad is fresh up having run 10th in the New Zealand Derby behind Gingernuts. The Baker/Forsman-trained runner scored consecutive wins to start its career before heading to Australia when running in behind the likes of Good Standing and Prized Icon. Having not won for almost a year is a concern, but it’s the class runner of this field.
Big Mike has won two of its seven starts which included an impressive win at Ellerslie in April. The five-year-old didn’t handle the extremely heavy track at Ellerslie last start, but there is some fine weather about and the track could dry up a touch. Te Rapa looks ideal for it.

Race 7 – Driver In Control R65 (1600m)
Brilliant Action fought gamely to win at Hastings last start and it could repeat. The nicely-bred type by Jimmy Choux has found its distance at the mile and the Baker/Forsman team has a good opinion of it. It’s on the improve and it can handle the conditions.
Lambrusco has yet to run a bad race at Te Rapa and it comes into this with a recent win under its belt. Freshly out of maiden grade, the Cape Blanco gelding was able to lead the field and kick strongly last start. Expect a similar run from out wide.
