Finding winners in the Wednesday, May 4 quaddie at Warrnambool

quaddie of the week
THERE are few things more Australian than putting on a quaddie.

The popularity of the quaddie is not hard to understand, given the huge payouts on offer if you’re able to get all four races right.

And what better meeting to place a quaddie on than one of Australia’s favourite race meetings – the Warrnambool Carnival.

Sportsbet.com.au offer quaddies on all the important meetings and this Wednesday we are looking at the second day of the carnival.

The ‘Bool quaddie kicks off on race 7 at 2:45pm – the Sinclair Wilson bm70 – a 1000m scamper race which should have plenty of pace.

We think we are on to a good thing for the second day of the ‘Bool carnival, and hopefully we can make some cash for our readers.

Race 7 – Sinclair Wilson (bm70) 1000m

There are a number of chances in the opening leg of the quaddie in the 1000m scamper, but we think there are three clear standouts.

Jersey Girl ($4.80) has a tough gate to contend with, but is gunning for a hattrick of wins. Has a great record over course and distance and should be a major player.

Despite having not raced since the beginning of April, Gemmalenah ($4.80) has raced in the Saturday grade and has great wet track form.

The Matt Laurie-trained filly rallied last time out at Cranbourne to finish third, despite being inconvenienced at the start over the same distance and we think she’ll be in the finish.

The winner of this race last year, Reigning Meteor ($7.50) draws relatively well in gate 7, and has a terrific record at the track, winning twice and placing once from the three starts.

Reports are he is jumping out well, and there is no question that he will be in the frame if the trail form holds up.

We are also throwing in Parcel at odds, who has a terrific first-up record.

Race 8 – Midfield Group Wangoom Hcp 1200m

A number of horses that ran in the Bel Esprit Stakes just under two weeks ago are going around at the ‘Bool in the second leg of the quaddie, so the form of that race must be respected.

Stellar Collision looks to be the class runner of the field.

The 3-year-old gelding was unlucky in the championships earlier in the year where he was kept three wide for much of the running, but won a $100,000 race the previous start at Moonee Valley.

Only query is the fact that the gelding has never started on a track worse than a soft 5 but the calibre of races that he has competed in means we simply cannot ignore him.

After starting her career as a must-watch horse after winning six of her first eight races, Girl Guide fell from the face of the earth after losing the next 12 races.

However, she showed a great deal in the Bel Esprit Stakes at Caulfield, where she charged home late to narrowly miss the win.

We think the $5.50 on offer but be a bit short but the form is hard to ignore.
Lastly, Hellova Street ($13.00) rounds out our selections in the second leg of the quaddie.

The talented Tasmanian runner has never finished outside the quinella second up and the wet track will be no problem, he will be right in this up to his ears.

Race 9 – Warrnambool Hyundai (bm64) 1700m

A massive 20 runner race is the third leg of the quaddie over the 1,700.

If the heavy track materialises like we expect, it will be hard to look past Eyes of Love.

She was an easy winner on her only heavy start and has terrific form coming in, settling fifth before winning easily last time out at Werribee.

Another runner than will enjoy the extra give in the track is Fellspur.

He ran on well at Terang to finish third from the back of the field in a leader’s race, and before that won a handy race at Ballarat.

A runner that is resuming its Victorian racing career after a couple of failed starts in NSW is Nordic Duke($21.00).

It has placed twice and won once over three races on heavy tracks and the change of racing direction could bring about instant results – one to look at the odds available.

Another runner at huge odds that we are looking at is Dusty Mamba ($21.00).

A last start winner at Ballarat, the 5-year-old gelding is rising in trip since that win but we believe he has what it takes to surprise a few down at the ‘Bool on Wednesday.

Race 10 – Duncan’s Liquor (bm70) 1400m

A couple of shorter priced favourites ($3.50 for the pair) round out the quaddie today, and we expect both to figure in the result.

Heza Ripper is unbeaten on rain-affected tracks and will benefit from the sodden Warrnambool track.

The only query is the the jump in distance (typically prefers the 1,200) but we are confident the four-year-old gelding can figure in the quinella here again.

The second of the shorties for the Duncan’s Liquor is Better Land.

Has won before on the heavy track and the recent form defies how good this horse is over the distance.

We are also throwing in Name the Day at odds.

Unbeaten on the soft and heavy tracks over three starts, the $15.00 on offer defies just how talented this wet tracker is.
