Early days for Winx’s expensive little bro

While Winx enjoys a well-deserved rest after her stunning defence of the Cox Plate, her most expensive sibling is taking small steps towards launching a career of his own.

The Snitzel colt is out of Winx’s dam Vegas Showgirl and fetched $2.3 million at the Easter Yearling sale with Emirates Park stumping up for a majority share.

Trainers Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott have the champion mare’s youngest brother in work at Tulloch Lodge.

“He’s just going through his education. It’s very early days for him,” Bott said.

“But he’s grown quite a bit and he’s still got a lot of maturing to do.

“He’ll have a few short, sharp preparations before we produce him at the races or the trials.”

Waterhouse and Bott trained the colt’s full-brother El Divino to win a Group Three race as a two-year-old but he has since been sent to champion Victorian trainer Darren Weir after a disappointing spring campaign.

Another youngster with famous relations close to making a debut is Black Caviar’s first foal Oscietra.

The Lindsay Park-trained filly by Exceed And Excel could have a jump-out at Flemington next week as she builds towards a race start.
