CHAMPION jockey Darren Gauci has announced his retirement but will still play a part in the industry as a mentor to young riders.
The 51-year-old will take up a position with Racing Victoria as an apprentice jockey coach early next month.
Gauci’s career spanned more than three decades and included four Victorian premierships.
Gauci had 376 Group 1 starts for 24 wins and 62 places. He saluted 143 times for owners in races worth more than $100,000 and worked for 30 trainers throughout his career.
HorseBetting.com.au congratulates Gauci on an incredible career and thanks him for always giving our horses the best chance to collect.
