Damien Oliver set for Sandown return
Champion jockey Damien Oliver will make a low-key return at Sandown following an enforced lay-off.
Oliver has chosen to stay home in Melbourne rather than ride at Saturday’s Queensland Oaks meeting in Brisbane.
He was stood down for almost a month after failing a breath test on the final day of the Warrnambool May carnival.
Oliver registered readings of .035 and .030, with 0.02 the threshold for jockeys.
The 10-time Melbourne premiership winner is still in the hunt for the 2015-16 title.
With 47 winners under his belt, Oliver trails Dwayne Dunn, who is also riding at Sandown on Saturday, by six.
Craig Williams, who is serving a careless riding suspension, is one behind Dunn with 14 metropolitan meetings left for the season.
