Cox Plate quaddie form and selections, Saturday October 22

Moonee Valley quaddie

THERE are many ways to make money betting on the Cox Plate and that includes taking a quaddie bet at Moonee Valley this Saturday.

The quaddie features the Cox Plate where Winx is looking for back-to-back victories in the $3 million feature. It has plenty of top-class rivals to beat, but punters could look to Winx as an anchor in their quaddie bets.

Kicking off the quaddie is the Schweppes Crystal Mile which hasn’t attracted a big field, but there are many winning hopes in what should be a competitive race.

The Super Vase Stakes ends the day at Moonee Valley which will be a hardest quaddie leg to hit. There are multiple winning chances which could determine how big the quaddie payout is on Cox Plate day.

Take your Cox Plate quaddie bet with CrownBet.com.au which will is offering a bonus bet special on the first five races at Moonee Valley.

Leg 1 – Schweppes Crystal Mile (1600m)

The United States hasn’t had an ideal preparation leading into this, but the Robert Hickmott-trained stayer still has the quality to win this. It was unlucky last start in the Dato Tan Chin Nam Stakes where it was held up in the straight and it has won twice around Moonee Valley which is a big help. It’s better over longer distances, but it’s the current $2.90 favourite and should be included in quaddie bets.

He Or She has been well backed from $4.60 to $4 and punters are confident it will run well. The Hayes/Dabernig-trained gelding was no match for Winx and Black Heart Bart in the Caulfield Stakes, but its form prior was solid and the smaller field will suit. Dwayne Dunn rides and he’s in great form currently.

Royal Rapture must be included on form alone. The Darren Weir-trained gelding won four consecutive races before running a solid fourth in the Toorak Handicap and form behind He’s Our Rokki should stack up well. $6 is a good price for a quality runner.

Leg 1 tips: 1, 3, 5

Leg 2 – Antler Luggage Moonee Valley Gold Cup (2500m)

Gallante has been a firmer in this race and in the Melbourne Cup. The Lloyd Williams-owned gelding ran second in the Naturalism behind subsequent Caulfield Cup winner Jameka and it has all the makings of becoming a top class stayer. Punters will be looking to narrow this race down to a few runners and including Gallante is a must.

Excess Knowledge is overdue a win this campaign and its third placing behind Almandin in the Bart Cummings was a good guide of what’s to come. The Waterhouse/Bott-trained horse hasn’t been able to win as frequently as some punters would have liked, but the $4 is a fair price here.

Second Wave has been well supported at $4.80. The imported gelding finished fourth in the Exchange Stakes at Goodwood last start and its start prior was a second placing behind Sir Isaac Newton at Ascot. That form should be good enough to feature in this at a luxury weight of 55kg.

Leg 2 tips: 1, 4, 9

Leg 3 – Group 1 Cox Plate (2040m)

Punters can save money anchoring one horse in quaddie bets and ours comes in the Cox Plate. Winx is currently the best horse in the world and see can’t see any of its Cox Plate rivals getting close this year. It hasn’t been beaten since winning this race last year and it has only strengthened since that run. $1.80 at CrownBet is a fair price and it will cut down on your quaddie costs.

Leg 3 tip: 8

Leg 4 – Super Vase Stakes (2040m)

So Si Bon showed its talent when fifth in the Group 1 Caulfield Guineas and it now looms as a threat in the major staying races. The Robbie Laing-trained colt was unlucky behind Divine Prophet last start and the rise from the mile to 2040m will be ideal. $6 is a nice each way price for quaddie punters.

On the same line at $6 is Whispering Brook which was strong when finishing third behind Global Glamour in the Thousand Guineas. The three-year-old filly relished the rise in distance and punters should keep the faith. It finished second at Moonee Valley in the Atlantic Jewel Stakes behind Merriest and Nick Hall rides at 55kg. Top chance.

Sydney Form has been the talking point of the spring carnival to date and Prized Icon looks a chance. It finished third behind Yankee Rose in the Spring Champion Stakes which should be respected and its only poor efforts have come when it has raced against the older horses. Likes the sting out of the track and it should be included.

Leg 4 tips: 1, 6, 10
