Cecily Eaton third in international race

Brisbane jockey Cecily Eaton has continued the good record of Australian jockeys in an international series for female riders.

Eaton returned home on Friday after finishing third aboard Tabasco in the Rome heat of the HH Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak Ladies World Championship (IFAHR) for Arabian horses.

The 10-event series matches top female jockeys from all over the world.

Eaton competed against riders from Switzerland, Ireland, Denmark, Poland, Germany and South Korea.

Victoria’s Linda Meech also finished third in a heat in Morocco last month.

The series was launched in 2009 to help promote Arabian horse racing worldwide and has gradually grown in stature.

Eaton was impressed with the running of the races and the standard of the competition.

“It was a great experience and the event was very well organised. I would especially like to thank H H Sheikh Mansoor and Lara Sawaya who really made sure things went smoothly for us all,” Eaton said.

The invitation was a boost for Eaton, one of Queensland’s hardest working jockeys, who recently returned from injury.
