What Caulfield Guineas Day 2024
Where Caulfield Racecourse – Melbourne, Victoria
When Saturday, October 12, 2024
First Race 12:15pm AEDT

The Caulfield Cup Carnival gets underway on Saturday afternoon, when a monster 10-race card is scheduled for Caulfield Racecourse. The Caulfield Guineas (1600m) is supported by the Toorak Handicap (1600m) and Might And Power Stakes (2000m) on a super day of Group 1 racing. The rail sticks in its true position, and with the track already rated a Good 4, there will be no excuses for fancied runners throughout the day. Caulfield Guineas Day 2024 is set to commence at 12:15pm AEDT.

Race 1: BM80 Handicap (1700m)

Nails Murphy beat all but Regal Zeus when facing a similar field over 1600m at this track on September 21. The son of Sioux Nation simply couldn’t run down the leader in a speed-dominated affair, but he was bridging the gap throughout the home straight to suggest 1700m will be ideal. It is his first crack at the trip, but with the in-form Jaylah Kennedy on board claiming 2kg from barrier four, Nails Murphy will be given every opportunity in running to go one better.

Selections:

Race 2: 3YO Fillies Plate (1200m)

Although Erno’s Cube will be having her first start the ‘Melbourne way’, she should prove too classy for this lot. She finished under a length behind Ameena in Group 2 company first-up, then backed it up with a respectable performance when defeated under two lengths by Autumn Glow last time out. As long as John Allen does not get caught wide from barrier nine, Erno’s Cube will prove hard to hold out.

Race 3: Group 3 Northwood Plume Stakes (1200m)

Charm Stone is set to have her first start in over a year when she returns in the 2024 Northwood Plume Stakes. She was last seen finishing a length off Militarize in the Group 1 Golden Rose, just on the heels on Cylinder. This is much easier, and at an each-way price with horse racing bookmakers, Charm Stone is set to run a bold race fresh.

Race 4: Group 3 Ladies Day Vase (1600m)

See You In Heaven was forced to sustain a long sprint when trying to chase down Grinzinger Belle last time out. However, with a better draw and a slight weight advantage in the 2024 Ladies Day Vase, the recipe for success looks clear for the Adelaide mare. She will need to absorb a genuine tempo, but with a strong finish, See You In Heaven will be seeing her rivals in the winning stall.

Race 5: Listed Weekend Hussler (1400m)

Jimmysstar unleashed a breathtaking finish when returning from a spell over 1100m at this track, and the step up to 1400m will only help him. He is tactically versatile, so Blake Shinn will have plenty of options upon settling. Whether he goes forward or settles towards the rear, if Jimmysstar is as good as everyone thinks he is, he just wins this.

Race 6: Group 2 Herbert Power Stakes (2400m)

Fancy Man resumed over the Caulfield 2000m in a similar race to this, and although forced to travel wide with no cover, he only went down by 2.8 lengths. The seven-year-old draws perfectly in barrier two for the 2024 Herbert Power Stakes and has the option to lead this field up under Daniel Stackhouse. With just 55.5kg on his back, if Fancy Man can gain a cheap sectional or two out in front, he should be booking his ticket to the Caulfield Cup.

Selections:

Herbert Power Stakes

Race 6 – Fancy Man Silks #6 Fancy Man (2)

7yo Gelding | T: Annabel Neasham & Rob Archibald | J: Daniel Stackhouse (55.5kg)

Race 7: Group 1 Might And Power Stakes (2000m)

Mr Brightside was narrowly denied in the Memsie Stakes (1400m) first-up before overhauling Pride Of Jenni in the Makybe Diva Stakes (1600m). He then reeled off a strong finish to close within 1.5 lengths of Jenni in the Feehan Stakes (1600m) last time out, which suggests he is going beautifully. Mr B will gain a perfect run in transit from barrier one, and when Craig Williams asks him for the ultimate effort, he should be too good once again in the 2024 Might And Power Stakes.

Selections:

Might And Power Stakes

Race 7 – Mr Brightside Silks #1 Mr Brightside (1)

Race 8: Group 1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m)

Is the Caulfield Guineas Broadsiding’s to lose? Horse betting sites seem to think so, but is there an all-time upset brewing in Saturday’s $3 million feature?

Race 9: Group 2 Schillaci Stakes (1100m)

Star Patrol is having his first start in close to a year, but this bloke fires fresh and can run a bold race against more-fancied runners. The six-year-old gelding has three wins and a minor placing from six first-up runs, including strong victories at the start of his last two campaigns. With roughie Celui expected to run along at a strong clip, the race sets up perfectly for Star Patrol to unleash a powerful finish in the 2024 Schillaci Stakes.

Selections:

Schillaci Stakes

Race 9 – Star Patrol Silks #6 Star Patrol (8)

6yo Gelding | T: Clinton McDonald | J: Ben Melham (58.5kg)

Race 10: Group 1 Toorak Handicap (1600m)

Antino may not get a better chance at Group 1 success than he does in the 2024 Toorak Handicap. He brings in perfect weight-for-age form with gallant runs behind Pride Of Jenni and Mr Brightside, while the conditions should suit him better than race favourite Another Wil, who has drawn awkwardly. Antino finished second in this race last year, and he just needs to hold his form to go one better this time.

Selections:

Toorak Handicap

Race 10 – Antino Silks #3 Antino (8)

6yo Gelding | T: Tony Gollan | J: Blake Shinn (55.5kg)
