Brooke Sweeney’s suspension varied to fine
Apprentice Brooke Sweeney has had a suspension for a whip breach reduced to a $1000 fine on appeal.
Stewards suspended Sweeney for five meetings for using the whip seven times before the 100m – two more than allowed – on Leveraction at Flemington in last Saturday’s David Bourke Provinical Plate, citing the apprentice’s poor recent record in relation to whip breaches.
Sweeney appealed the severity of the penalty and on Wednesday the Racing Appeals And Disciplinary Board varied it to a $1000 fine.
The decision means Sweeney is free to ride at Sandown on Wednesday where she has two rides.
