Bonny O’Reilly aiming for fourth win in a row at Canterbury Park

UNDEFEATED mare Bonny O’Reilly will be aiming to make it three wins from as many starts when she lines up at Canterbury Park on Friday night.

Trained by Bjorn Baker at Warwick Farm, the four-year-old will contest the Benchmark 72 Handicap (1100m) following two barrier trials in recent weeks, finishing second and third respectively.

It will be her first start since scoring a 1.3 length victory at Scone (1100m) on May 13, with her only other start being a 9.5 length thrashing on debut at Nowra back in April.

Despite facing a rise in class heading to town this Friday, Baker’s team are expecting her to perform well.

“She’s obviously still learning and stepping up to the better city company, but she’s two from two and both wins were dominant,” said Baker’s racing manager Jack Bruce.

“Naturally we’ve got a high opinion of her.”

The New Zealand-bred daughter of O’Reilly and Pretty (x Pins) will be ridden by Jason Collett this Friday, the same hoop who partnered with her to win at Scone six months ago.

It won’t be an easy task, with the mare having drawn the extreme outside (barrier 10) against a quality line-up including team Snowden’s Secret Trail which is also resuming from a spell.

Secret Trail has only won two of her nine starts to date, but comes into Friday’s race following a dominant trial at Randwick late last month.

Also right in contention will be Chris Waller’s duo of Ciarlet and Navua Mist, the former having been placed in two of her past three race track appearances.

The eight race program at Canterbury Park kicks off at 6:15pm on Friday night, with races run every 30 minutes in order to align with the night meeting at Moonee Valley.
