Australian jockey detained in Malaysia
An Australian jockey has been detained by Malaysian immigration officials while attempting to leave the country using a passport that was not his.
The Malay Mail Online said the intoxicated 41-year-old was reportedly found with two Australian passports at Kuala Lumpur Airport before an altercation ensued with security staff.
The Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade confirmed it was providing consular assistance to an Australian man detained in Malaysia.
The jockey, who has apparently worked in the region for the past decade, remains in immigration custody, following the August 18 incident according to the Mail.
He is understood to be from Melbourne and has ridden numerous winners in Malaysia and Singapore where he is highly sought after by horse owners.
Sepang Police Assistant Commissioner Aziz Ali told the Mail officers had reviewed CCTV footage of the incident and referred the case to immigration authorities.
“There are also aviation regulations which need to be adhered to regarding intoxicated passengers boarding a flight,” he said.
The Mail said security personnel found the picture on the passport was different from the jockey.
