Ascot betting tips, form and odds, Saturday December 30

THE last Ascot meet before 2018 is this Saturday as the West Australian venue delivers an intriguing eight race card.

This is the last meeting in the west prior to Monday’s Group 3 Perth Cup, so all eyes will be on Perth to see how the track plays out two days before the first major feature of the new year.

Race 1 – Maiden (1400m)

Touched has finished second on back-to-back occasions and gets the perfect maiden to breakthrough at the third time of asking. Both times the horse finished within a length of the winner, so it doesn’t have much improvement to make.

Race 1 tip: Touched to win at Sportsbet

Race 2 – Maiden (1400m)

Bombardment has the best form of any runner entering this race.

The horse has missed out by a combined total of one and a half lengths in its two recent runs, and the speedy beginner should be fine jumping from the inside alley. Bombardment should be breaking the duck on Saturday.

Race 2 tip: Bombardment to win at Neds

Race 3 – Rs0ly (2150m)

Majora’s Mask always seems to be thereabouts in its races but is yet to win its first race. In two of its last three starts the horse has missed by a total of half a length, and we are anticipating a solid run from the Gavin Foster gelding.

Race 3 tip: Majora’s Mask to win at Ladbrokes

Race 4 – Class 1 (1500m)

More Bxaar has placed in three straight races and returns to a track where it has never missed a placing.

The daughter of Demerit jumps from the perfect alley and will give a great sight at odds in this one.

Race 4 tip: More Bxaar to win at William Hill

Race 5 – Rs0mw (1400m)

The Escort will be winning this one. This horse comes into this one on the back of a great run at Ascot on December 13, and if it runs up to that standard it will be very hard to beat here.

The Escort is our next best bet of the day at Ascot

Race 5 tip: The Escort to win at Neds

Race 6 – Class 1 Handicap (1100m)

Vexilloid returns after a brilliant debut in April. The horse was sent to the paddock following that brilliant win, and we think it will be ready and raring to go ahead of its second-ever race start.

Vexilloid is the best bet of the day at Ascot

Race 6 tip: Vexilloid to win at CrownBet

Race 7 – Class 3 Handicap (1200m)

Santiago Gal is third-up on Saturday where it has placed previously in the past. The daughter of War Chant won stylishly last time out at Ascot, and while the horse gets a 1.5kg penalty for that effort, we are backing it to overcome that impediment.

Race 7 tip: Santiago Gal to win at Neds

Race 8 – Class 3 Handicap (1600m)

[rmOC_events_list event_ids=1177119_08]
Mythical Saga won well at Bunbury in a Class 3 event, but the horse gets a 1kg relief after the victory. The horse faces a tough assignment in a large field, but it is one of only three last-start winners in a 14 runner race, so we are backing the winning form to come to the fore here.

Race 8 tip: Mythical Saga to win at Neds
