Abracadash ready for Saturday racing

Abracadash lines up for her first Saturday race at Eagle Farm, something Kelso Wood admits he thought would have happened a long time ago.

The now five-year-old mare will be having just her 11th start in teh Cascade Handicap (1000m) with her career stalled by injury.

Wood admits he would have thought the Magic Albert mare would have by now well and truly returned her $85,000 sale price as a Magic Millions yearling.

It has been a long and rocky road for Abracadash, albeit one which includes four midweek wins, the past three in a row.

She was injured in October 2014 and away from racing until December last year but Wood said she was lucky to be racing at all.

“She fractured a splint bone and then got an infection. It was touch and go and she spent weeks at the vet hospital up at Gatton,” Wood said.

“It was a long road back but we carried on because we have always had a high opinion of her.”

Even when Wood got Abracadash back to the races things didn’t go exactly to plan.

She won a Doomben midweek maiden in December which was a bit of shock to Wood.

“We actually had her set for the Magic Millions maiden the following month but she was just too classy that day,” Wood said.

“She deserves to have a go at Saturday racing and this looks a nice race for her.”
