Millar high on Hermanito’s future abroad after promising start

Hermanito

PLYMOUTH trainer Janelle Millar is optimistic she may have uncovered the next Kiwi runner capable of winning across the Tasman after a Hermanito’s brilliant beginning to its career.

Hermanito is the brother to the Group Two Brisbane Cup winner Chocante and the trainer is confident the horse can live up to the lofty expectations of its sibling.

The Shocking three-year-old was an impressive debut winner at Wanganui last month with an effort that has attracted interest.

The trainer is so optimistic on the horse’s chances however, she believes the connections would need to receive an offer too good to refuse if they were to sell.

“There have been a few people sniffing around, but I told the owners it would need to be a pretty good offer as there’s no reason why he couldn’t be as good as his brother,” Millar said.

Hermanito was successful over 1600 metres on a heavy track in his first appearance and an effort that was immediately rewarded with a break.

The trainer said the team elected to put the horse out for a spell rather than see it slog away at unsuitable tracks.

“I didn’t think there was too much else around for him and he doesn’t really like wet tracks,” she said.

“He’s definitely got the goods and there will be some nice races for him in the spring.”

While Hermanito looks to be a star of the future, the galloper is not the only member of the Millar stable that has expectations on its shoulders.

Effectav, Light Em Up and Tinkalicious are all rated as black type contenders.

Effectav in particular looks like a hot prospect. The five-year-old mare defeated subsequent stakes winner Twoznotenough two runs back and was spelled after she finished an unlucky fifth in the Group Three Taranaki Cup.

Millar said she is happy with how both Effectav and Tinkalicious have returned.

“She looks absolutely magnificent and she’ll be getting her chance at more black type,” Millar said.

“Tinkalicious was freshened after her last win. She’s been very, very tidy and is another one we’ll be looking for black type with.”

The Nadeem three-year-old has two wins and a placing from her four starts to date while Light Em Up won successive races in the summer and finished fifth when recently resuming at Te Rapa.

“She had a throat operation following her last win,” Millar said.

“She’s come back well and it was a magnificent effort first-up, she missed the kick and that cost her a place.”
