Rosehill free race-by-race tips & quaddie | Saturday, March 15
What | Coolmore Classic Day 2025 |
Where | Rosehill Gardens Racecourse |
When | Saturday, March 15, 2025 |
First Race | 12:30pm AEDT |
Rosehill Gardens Racecourse is the destination for Group 1 action on Saturday afternoon, with the $1 million Coolmore Classic (1500m) headlining a bumper 10-part program.
The fillies and mares feature has attracted a quality field of 14, and with a stacked undercard surrounding the event, including the Group 2 Ajax Stakes (1500m) and Group 2 Phar Lap Stakes (1500m), punters can expect a tremendous afternoon of racing.
The rail is in the true position the entire circuit, and although the track is rated a Soft 6 at the time of acceptances, an upgrade to the Good range appears imminent thanks to some drying conditions forecast leading into the weekend. The opening event is scheduled to get underway at 12:30pm AEDT.
Race 1: BM72 Midway Handicap (1200m)
The dartboard may be required in the opening event of the program, with a stack of chances in this BM72 Midway Handicap. So Good So Cool gets the nod, however, and represents good each-way value with horse racing bookmakers after closing on the heels of key rival Tenderize in back-to-back starts. He gets a genuine tempo engaged this time to be chiming in late, and provided Chad Schofield can slot in for cover from gate six, watch for this guy to be flashing home in the concluding stages.

Race 2: BM78 Handicap (1900m)
King Of Thunder appears suited stepping out in trip second-up in the campaign after an eye-catching effort returning at Warwick Farm on March 5. The son of Tivaci simply couldn’t match motors with his rivals over the 1400m on that occasion, with the lightly raced three-year-old gelding only building into his work in the final furlong. He was a genuine Group 1 VRC Derby (2500m) contender at the end of last preparation for good reason, and with Zac Lloyd set to gain the run of the race from stall one, watch King Of Thunder to be barrelling over the top to justify favouritism with Neds.

Race 3: Group 3 Pago Pago Stakes (1200m)
The Group 3 Pago Pago Stakes (1200m) is the last chance for the two-year-old colts & geldings to book their ticket to next Saturday’s Group 1 Golden Slipper (1200m). West Of Swindon gets the verdict after a good runner-up performance behind Beiwacht in the Group 2 Silver Slipper Stakes (1100m) at Rosehill on February 22, where the son of Wootton Bassett was unsuited by the sit-and-sprint conditions over the 1100m. Stepping out to the 1200m for the first time should be ideal, and with the boys likely to tick-over some strong sectionals, West Of Swindon should get every chance to charge over the top.

Race 4: Group 3 Magic Night Stakes (1200m)
It’s the girls turn to step out in the Group 3 Magic Night Stakes (1200m), where the John O’Shea & Tom Charlton-trained Artistic Venture appears hard to hold out. She was arguably a good thing licked in her latest outing in the Group 2 Sweet Embrace Stakes (1200m) at Randwick on March 1, with the Trapeze Artist filly attempting to squeeze through a gap that simply never came. James McDonald is a booking that shows intent from the stable, and although Artistic Venture will have to overcome gate 14, she possesses the quality to get the job done.

Race 5: Group 3 Sky High Stakes (2000m)
Vauban makes his Sydney debut after being transferred to the Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott barn and appears supremely placed in the Group 3 Sky High Stakes (2000m). The former Melbourne Cup favourite has been disappointing in his two Australian starts prior to his permanent arrival; however, he seems to be acclimatizing well to his new conditions, hitting the line well recent barrier trial at Randwick on February 24. He’s got tactical versatility and can head forward under Tim Clark from gate four, and provided Vauban can replicate his peak rating first-up, the $5 with Picklebet is a fair price to find out.

Race 6: Group 2 Phar Lap Stakes (1500m)
Real Class represents terrific each-way value with PlayUp as she makes her Australian debut for the Chris Waller stable. She was a Group 2 winner in New Zealand before making her way across the Tasman, and the daughter of Vadamos appears to be relishing her stay, cruising through the wire in a recent barrier trial at Warwick Farm on March 3. Zac Lloyd takes the reins and should get every chance to land in a handy position from barrier four, and while stable companions Declichy Boulevard and Lazzura have the fitness edge, Real Class warrants plenty of respect in the 2025 Phar Lap Stakes.

Race 7: Group 3 Maurice McCarten Stakes (1100m)
Pisanello appears to be the horse on the rise heading into the Group 3 Maurice McCarten Stakes (1100m). The son of Ribchester claimed a hat-trick of wins last preparation, including an ultra-impressive half-length win over a 1000m at Kembla Grange on November 23 where he smashed the clock before being sent to the paddock. He gets in here on the minimum 53kg, and although Zac Lloyd may need some luck slotting in from barrier eight, expect Pisanello to be barrelling over the top to make it four wins on the trot.

Race 8: Group 1 Coolmore Classic (1500m)
A field of 14 fillies and mares are set to do battle in the 2025 Coolmore Classic, and it’s all one-way traffic in the betting as Lady Shenandoah holds the call as the $2.20 favourite with Dabble. A Chris Waller-trained galloper has taken out the last two editions. Will that trend continue? Or is there an upset brewing?

Race 9: Group 2 Ajax Stakes (1500m)
Von Hauke appears to be the forgotten runner in the 2025 Ajax Stakes and seems too big a price at the $34.00 with BlondeBet. The son of Savabeel was given a glorified barrier trial first-up in the Listed Abell Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley on February 28, with the five-year-old settling last before showing a nice turn of speed in the final furlong. Bailey Wheeler should land in a stalking position with cover throughout from stall seven, and provided they tick over some modest sectionals in the middle stages, Von Hauke will be there to swoop at a monster price.

Race 10: BM88 Handicap (1400m)
After being sent on a Group 1 VRC Oaks (2500m) path in the spring, Harlem Queen returns after a 128-day spell. The daughter of Brutal was far from disgraced stretching out to a staying journey, but appears to be most effective over shorter distances, with her two wins coming over the 1200m and 1400m, respectively. James McDonald is booked to do the steering from barrier nine, and with Harlem Queen trialling the house down heading into this first-up assignment, she’s a cracking bet to send punters home happy to end 2025 Coolmore Classic Day.
