Punters should be confident in Tye Angland at Rosehill

TYE Angland hasn’t exactly lit up the Australian racing scene this season, but punters should be confident with his book of rides this Saturday.

In particular with classy former New Zealand runner Antonio Giuseppe which lines up in the Sky High Stakes – on its way to the Sydney Cup.

Angland believes the current Sydney Cup favourite is a group one horse in the making.

“I think he is a group one horse. I rode him early days and he gave me a good feel,” Angland said.

“My weight stopped me sticking with him in the spring, but it was good to get back on him.

“I rode him in both his trials this time and, to me, he felt like he came back bigger and stronger. He is one of those horses you want to stay on because he is going to take you to better races.”

The Chris Waller-trained runner scored an impressive win fresh up and it drops in weight for the run. Angland is confident with the talented type, but admits the race won’t be easy.

“He is down the limit on Saturday, but it is not an easy race,” Angland said.

“These horses he is taking on are coming off racing Winx and running well. He needs to step up, but he feels like he will.”

Angland could snatch a group one win with Heavens Above in the Group 1 Coolmore Classic. The quality mare could be a group one winner in waiting if stewards rule in favour after the possible disqualification of Azkadellia in the Queen Of The Turf.

“We don’t know what is going on with that Azkadellia stuff. I rode her that day and they still haven’t made a decision whether she is going to keep that race,” Angland said.

“She could be a group one winner and that would mean another penalty on Saturday, so it probably works in our favour in the Coolmore.”

Heavens Above didn’t perform at its best when fresh up in the Millie Fox Stakes, but Angland is expecting improvement from the current $21 chance at Sportsbet.com.au.

“She went back the other day from a bad gate and never got a chance. She is better being held up behind and peeling off their back and using her turn of foot,” Angland said.

“She won second up at this track in the spring and she is ideally drawn to get the soft run, whereas all the good ones are out wide. I think we are a good chance.”
