Our best 5 bets for February 11 racing at Randwick and Caulfield

Weekend tips

SORTING through the big fields this Saturday can be tough, so we’ve compiled our best five bets for the racing action at Randwick and Caulfield.

Most of the attention is on the C.F. Orr Stakes and Winx’s return in the Apollo Stakes, but there’s money to be made in the supporting races on what should be a cracking day on the punt.

We love betting on the Blue Diamond qualifying races as punters get to see Australia’s very best rising juveniles, and one Lindsay Park filly is worth following this Saturday at Caulfield.

Catchy – +180 at Sportsbet.com.au

The two-year-old lines up in Race 3 at Caulfield (1.40pm) having won its first two career starts in impressive fashion.

The Lindsay Park-trained daughter of Fastnet Rock scored a smart win on debut after getting well-back in the running. It was able to pick a path through the field and score a narrow win over Garrard as the odds-on favourite.

Catchy ran as the $1.80 favourite last time out at Caulfield and it asserted its class with a 2.25-length romp. It stayed along the rails and waited for the gap to open before kicking away in the final 100m.

It’s seen as Craig Williams’ best Blue Diamond ride and many punters are expecting Williams to stick with Catchy for the feature if it wins on Saturday.

Pariah – +280 at Ladbrokes.com.au

Sydney juvenile form must be respected at this time of the year and the Snowden’s bring Pariah to contest the second Blue Diamond Prelude at 2.15pm.

The two-year-old colt by Redoute’s Choice was a strong one-length winner on debut over a smart type in Menari and it looks set to continue winning.

This isn’t the easiest field to compete against, but it should be able to find cover from a wide barrier and we’re expecting Kerrin McEvoy to produce a winning ride aboard the colt.

We’re expecting its current odds to firm so take the $3.80 on offer.

Ladbrokes.com.au

Hellbent – +135 to place at CrownBet.com.au

The Darren Weir-trained sprinter has to come up against the likes of Chautauqua and Wild Rain, but it was desperately unlucky not to win last start.

The four-year-old finished third in behind Tivaci in the Kensington Stakes and its form prior included back-to-back wins over quality opposition.

It’s a three-time winner at this distance and we believe it has enough speed to finish in the top two. Race-favourite Chautauqua is drifting in the market and Hellbent could firm with enough backing.

It’s only a seven-horse field, so Hellbent will need to finish first or second for this place bet to cash.

Dothraki – +550 at Palmerbet.com.au

The Snowden-trained gelding hasn’t been able to win or place in four runs this campaign, but it will appreciate this class and bookmakers are giving away generous odds.

The son of Mossman will enjoy any easing of the track at Randwick in the Southern Cross Stakes at 2.35pm and it usually fires when least expected.

It finished only 2.3 lengths behind Music Magnate in the Doomben 10,000 and it was making good ground last start in the Magic Millions Sprint despite a wide run.

It drops in weight, faces an easier field, and there’s good value in its current fixed odds win price.

Global Glamour – +260 at CrownBet.com.au

The three-year-old filly produced a good effort to finish second in the Magic Millions Guineas and it’s the class runner of the field.

The Waterhouse/Bott-trained filly won the Group 1 Flight Stakes and Group 1 1000 Guineas last campaign, which is great form for this race and it will should be extremely tough to beat.

It will likely drop back from barrier 12 and work home well for jockey Joshua Parr. The $3.60 is a great price on offer and it has the race fitness on its side over the likes of Spright, Foxplay and Honesty Prevails.
