Well Played Capitalist claiming his third group win | Punt Drunk

Punt Drunk Daily – 8/3/21

It is not very often that we are excited to see a Monday morning, but after the weekend on the punt it is not the worst thing to happen to us. Aegon was put in his place in the Randwick Guineas, September Run went around like a busted arse in the Newmarket Handicap and Regardsmaree in the Echuca Cup was genuinely disgusting. With the All Star Mile coming up this weekend, it is the tonic we need after the weekend that was, as well as the Coolmore Classic in Sydney. However, today is Adelaide Cup day at Morphettville and we are reading to launch into the five gallops meeting held around the country today!

Come on Stubby, do us a favour

Prior to today’s run in the Adelaide Cup, the Symon Wilde trained Tralee Rose is currently an $18 chance in this year’s Melbourne Cup. Now, we are not too sure if that is a genuine overreaction to a couple of impressive win’s or if Tralee Rose is going to be the story of the Cup as was the case with Persan last year. Her win in the Lord Reims Stakes was properly arrogant, and prior to that she put a gap of seven lengths on her rivals when taking out the Listed Bagot Handicap. However, this one is to Jason “Stubby” Holder, we have had a tough ol’ weekend on the punt, and with $2.00 on offer we would love to double our money with another win for Tralee Rose in the Adelaide Cup. We expect this run will be the last run for the campaign for Tralee Rose, and boy are we excited to see what is in store for her in the spring.

Well played Capitalist!

The first season sire that is Capitalist has been extremely successful over the past six months. That run continued when Kalashnikov took out the Group 3 Black Opal at Canberra yesterday afternoon. The win in the Black Opal, was the third black-type victory for Capitalist as a sire on the back of Profiteer’s dominant win in the Inglis Millennium and Tycoon Humma’s Stakes win at Flemington on February 27. Capitalist was the first two-year-old to ever take out the Breeders’ Plate, the 2YO Magic Millions Classic and Golden Slipper. Now, none of his progeny will complete that during this season, but a win in the Golden Slipper for Profiteer would cap off a spectacular first season as a sire.

Punt Drunk’s best bet of the day

Zipsur is slowly becoming a Mackay track specialist with a win and two minor place finishes at the track from as many starts. Having settled last in the field on February 20, a swift turn of foot saw the son of Magnus charge clear to go on and score by over three lengths. If he produces an effort like that today he should be too strong late for this competitive Class 3 despite the rise in weight.
