Waikuku declared fit to start in Hong Kong Derby

After galloping Thursday morning as scheduled Hong Kong Derby top elect Waikuku has been declared a certain starter ahead of the $HK18 million feature on Sunday.

The $3.40 favourite at online bookmaker Ladbrokes went through a scheduled track gallop on Thursday and the Veterinary Officer reported that the four-year-old is sound with no additional findings of significance.

Mr J Size, the trainer of Waikuku, has advised the Stewards he was satisfied with the horse’s work on Thursday morning and that the gelding had pulled up well afterwards.

A further release will be issued on Saturday after Waikuku undergoes his routine pre-race veterinary inspection.
