Twitter tells the story of Chautauqua inspiring the racing world
UNLESS you have been on a self-imposed media blackout since Saturday, we have no doubt you have seen and probably re-watched Chautauqua’s stunning TJ Smith Stakes win from day one of The Championships.
Even if you saw it live – who doesn’t want to re-live arguably the greatest performance in Championships’ history?
In honour of the great grey, we are dedicating our Twitter racing wrap to Chautauqua.
We have combed through social media to get the absolute best contributions from the wider racing community on the star sprinter.
The Twitter public alongside notable racing personalities react to Chautauqua’s win
The great grey’s withering burst is one of the most stunning things we have seen on a racecourse, and the Twitterverse agreed.
Reckon that’s the greatest win I’ve ever seen #Chautauqua oh my that’s breathtaking

Some even went as far to say that the win was its showcase race of its glittering career.
Oh. My. Goodness. That might actually be his best win yet. Outstanding. Amazing. Unbelievable. Incredible. #chautauqua

We love the big grey at HorseBetting.com.au, so much like this Twitter user, we took great delight in Chautauqua saluting, proving the doubters wrong in the process.
Hahaha to all the knockers #Chautauqua

Alongside the amazing win, Darren Flindell’s call of the TJ Smith Stakes is amongst the best and most spine-tingling race commentary moments of The Championships so far.
Thankfully Sky had the foresight to put a camera on Flindell as the TJ Smith was being run, and it is an extraordinary thing to see a master of his craft deliver such a brilliant call to match a sensational finish.
“Can he do it?… YES!”@hkdarren captured the moment perfectly as Chautauqua unleashed his trademark turn of foot to win a third TJ Smith. pic.twitter.com/tGs6RRRF4t

There was one notable person on track that was not too thrilled with the remarkable win however.
The first lady of racing Gai Waterhouse had her elect English in the race, and the gun runner looked to have the race at its mercy as it entered the latter stages of the race.
We all know what followed, but we will let Gai’s face tell the story.
The reaction from @GaiWaterhouse1 as Chataqua drops from the clouds is priceless!! #TheChampionships pic.twitter.com/GJFWyOxuIe

It is fair to say Gai’s runners have elicited this type of reaction from fellow trainers at Randwick before given her dominance of the Sydney racing scene, so forgive us if we are not shedding a year for the Waterhouses tonight.
