The Tatts Tiara will be the final Group 1 race of the 2023/24 season, headlining a massive nine-race program at Eagle Farm this Saturday afternoon. A full field of 17 runners is expected for the $700,000 contest, with four of those being three-year-old fillies who will take on the older mares.
Although there is rain forecast for Thursday and Friday, the Soft 5 rating at the time of acceptances should be what we are presented with on Saturday. The rail will be in the +6m position from the 1600m-1000m, coming out to +7m for the remainder of the circuit.
Following years of dominance from interstate trainers, Queensland-based runners have claimed two of the last three editions of the Tatts Tiara. Can the hometown trainers continue their recent dominance, or will it be another Group 1 victory for interstate raiders on Saturday?

Bella Nipotina has opened as the clear favourite at +170 with online bookmakers after her impressive preparation in Queensland. C’est Magique recorded a dominant win on debut for the Chris Waller stable, and she sits on the second line of betting at +550. Semana (+900), Coeur Volante (+1200), Opal Ridge (+1200) and Roots (+1200) lead the rest of the field; however, outside the top two in the market, this race looks to be a very open contest.

In a race that lacks speed, Zoe’s Promise, Bubble Rock and C’est Magique will push forward to settle in the first four from middle barriers, while Bella Nipotina, Banana Queen and Abounding will attempt to take a sit behind the speed influences. Semana, Vienna Princess, Coeur Volante and Comrade Rosa will settle towards the rear of the field and will appreciate any extra speed that is injected into the race.

Tatts Tiara 2024 preview & form
Ciaron Maher gave Semana a two-month freshen before the Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap, and even though she made up good ground down the outside, it looked as though she needed the run first-up. The daughter of Winning Rupert will appreciate a softer track if the rain does keep the surface in the Soft range, and her form second-up (3:2-0-1) is very good. From barrier six, if Semana can get to the middle of the track in the home straight, she will prove very hard to hold out at a good each-way quote.
Bella Nipotina has enjoyed an outstanding preparation in Queensland. The Maher-trained mare notched up her second Group 1 victory in the Doomben 10,000 and then finished second in both the Kingsford-Smith Cup and Stradbroke Handicap. Considering the daughter of Pride Of Dubai has maintained fitness and form despite racing since last November, it is impossible to leave her out of the top four against her own sex.
C’est Magique broke through last start for her first victory since her debut run in the Group 2 Dane Ripper Stakes, proving way too good for her rivals first-up. In her first run for the Waller stable, the daughter of Zoustar relished the conditions and was given a peach of a ride from James McDonald. From barrier nine, McDonald will have to do some early work to get into a forward position, but if he can weave some magic, C’est Magique will play a prominent role in the finish.
Opal Ridge was very good first-up when winning the Listed Ortensia Stakes at Scone, before settling near the rear of the field and only running on steadily from the back in the Group 2 Moreton Cup last start. The Luke Pepper-trained mare is another who appreciates more give in the ground, and if she is within four lengths of the leaders turning for home, her turn of foot will give her every chance.
