Savvy spell set to enhance mare’s group hopes

Savvy Dreams
HIGHLY-TOUTED four-year-old Savvy Dreams is showing the benefits of a good break following its break-through campaign last season.

The Guy Lowry-prepared daughter of Savabell turned heads last season after a number of quality performances in group races, and the trainer believes there is plenty of improvement to come.

“She looks fantastic and a lot bigger and stronger. Her mother got better with age as well,” Lowry said.

“She’ll be coming back in the stable at the beginning of October.”

Savvy Dreams quickly progressed from its maiden win last term to finish runner-up in the Group Two Lowland Stakes before the mare ran third behind the subsequent Group One ATC Oaks winner Bonneval in the Group One New Zealand Oaks.

The horse then went to South Australia where its best performance was a fourth in the Group One SA Derby at Morphettville.

“She had a long preparation and there was no need to get her going for the early spring,” Lowry said.

“We’re giving her every chance to get over her trip to Adelaide where she didn’t have a lot of luck.”

Lowry has already mapped out a tentative programme for Savvy Dreams to follow later this year.

“There’s a twilight meeting here at Hastings on December 14 and she could run in the Rating 75 over 1200m,” he said.

“She’ll probably then go to 1400m or a mile somewhere and we’d like to have a look at the Group One Thorndon Mile at Trentham.”

Savvy Dreams was accompanied on its Australian venture by Lamborghini, which has remained across the Tasman after weighing in twice from its three South Australian appearances.

The Shinko King gelding is now with Patrick Payne and finished sixth at Flemington in its only appearance so far for the Victorian trainer.
