Pakenham night racing tips

What Pakenham Races
Where Pakenham Racing Club – 420 Nar Nar Goon–Longwarry Rd, Tynong VIC 3813
When Thursday, April 27, 2023
First Race 4:45pm AEST

A bumper nine-race program awaits punters at Pakenham Racecourse on Thursday night with perfect conditions for racing forecast. With unseasonably warm weather throughout the week and the rail coming out 4m, there will be no excuses for fancied runners on the night. Following the abandonment of Tuesday’s Flemington program, the William Newton VC Handicap kicks off the program at 4:45pm AEST.

Best Bet at Pakenham: White Marlin

Punters will get a bit of a treat on Thursday when Melbourne Cup favourite White Marlin steps out over 2000m. He is clearly the class horse in the field and showed all of it in his strong first-up win in the Group 3 Easter Cup at Sandown on April 8. He put 2.25 lengths on Right You Are and beat Group performer Lunar Flare in the process. He is undefeated through six starts, and stepping back 100m to the 2000m should be no issue for this son of Mastercraftsman who should simply jump, lead and win under Jordan Childs. In doing so, White Marlin will be primed for a tilt at a golden ticket into the Melbourne Cup in next month’s Andrew Ramsden Stakes.

Next Best at Pakenham: Chase De Ace

We were with the Trevor Rogers-trained Chase De Ace last week at the Pakenham 1600m, and although he found one better in Impending Link, we have seen enough – in his last two starts especially – to suggest he should win on Thursday. Zac Spain sticks on board, and we expect the plan to be simple once again, where the pair look to find the rail from barrier five, offer a kick 300m out and make them chase. If he doesn’t break his maiden here at start 12, it may never come.

Next Best

Race 5 – silks#1 Chase De Ace (5)

4yo Gelding | T: Trevor Rogers | J: Zac Spain (59.5kg)

Best Value at Pakenham: Aminikii

The Jason Warren-trained Aminikii was awful at Sandown on April 8, but a return to the Pakenham 1400m could make him a good play in the penultimate leg of the quaddie. The four-year-old gelding has two wins from as many starts at the track and trip, with both coming at the two starts prior to his effort at Sandown. His wins were full of merit and the races have provided subsequent winners. He has a strong turn of foot for BM64 level, and despite needing to lug 62kg under Daniel Stackhouse, Aminikii looks to have a fair bit of class on his rivals.

Best Value

Race 8 – silks#1 Aminikii (7)

4yo Gelding | T: Jason Warren | J: Daniel Stackhouse (59.5kg)
