Where Moonee Valley Racecourse – Gate 2 Feehan Ave, Moonee Ponds VIC 3039
When Friday, February 21, 2025
First Race 6:15pm AEDT

Feature racing returns to Moonee Valley on Friday night, when the Listed Torney Night Cup (2500m) takes top billing on the eight-race program. The rail will be in its true position for the entire circuit, with the track rated a Good 4. The first race at Moonee Valley is set to jump at 6:15pm AEDT.

Torney Night Cup Tip: Garachico

Garachico was a smart Caulfield 2000m winner first-up and looks to be racing in career-best form. The son of Ribchester went to the paddock in the spring after winning the 2800m race on Melbourne Cup Day, and the way he was hitting the line late at Caulfield suggests a race like this is within his reach. Michael Dee will have this bloke settled in the moving line throughout from barrier three, and despite this being his first look at the track, Garachico will take some holding out in the Torney Night Cup.

Best Bet at Moonee Valley: Our Queen

Our Queen is undefeated through two starts, and her first-up win at Sandown on January 29 suggests she has come back in fine form. The four-year-old mare managed to lead throughout despite being pressured all the way, suggesting she has above-average ability. Moonee Valley looks like it will suit the front-running daughter of Night Of Thunder perfectly, and if Craig Williams can find the rail from barrier six, Our Queen should prove hard to gun down.

Next Best at Moonee Valley: Miss Tarzy

Miss Tarzy has been racing honestly this campaign without winning, and the quick six-day backup from Flemington last Saturday should have her rock-hard fit for this assignment. The five-year-old mare got too far back in the running on that day when comfortably beaten by Revelare; however, the Tarzino mare now returns to her favourite track, where she has two wins and a third at the 2040m trip. If Jaylah Kennedy can land in the first four upon settling, her 2kg claim will benefit Miss Tarzy in the final 200m.
