Since the inaugural running of the Ming Dynasty Quality in 1986, the race has been held at Randwick, Warwick Farm, Kembla Grange and Rosehill.

Over the years, several runners have used the Ming Dynasty Quality as a kick off point for their spring campaigns. Winners and placegetters in this race have gone on to win the Caulfield Guineas, Cox Plate and VRC Derby later in the preparation.
Notable winners of the Ming Dynasty Quality include Golden Mile (2022), Quick Thinker (2019), Ambidexter (2011), Lion Tamer (2010), Dane Shadow (2004), Lonhro (2001) and Kinjite (1991)

Recent Ming Dynasty Quality results
- First-up after a 112-day spell and a trip to Queensland, the Chris Waller-trained Lady Shenandoah ($5.00) stormed over the top to break her maiden status in stylish fashion, claiming the Group 3 Ming Dynasty Quality (1400m) at Rosehill on Saturday afternoon. It turned out to be a masterstroke by Sydney’s leading trainer, with the three-year-old filly only needing one barrier trial leading into Saturday, proving far too classy for her rivals despite giving fitness to the well-supported favourite Mayfair ($4.80). The Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott-trained colt was happy to stride out and lead under Tim Clark, and the son of Fastnet Rock was brave throughout the 1400m journey, giving a bold kick in the home straight. Godolphin’s Snack Bar ($12.00) loomed large in the final 400m and appeared to be travelling best of those in behind, however, it was Jay Ford aboard Lady Shenandoah closing best, with 53kg on her back proving a vital difference in the concluding stages.
- Encap ($4.40) secured victory in the Group 3 Ming Dynasty Quality repaying the faith for followers after a luckless effort in the Group 3 Up And Coming Stakes last time out. The Gary Portelli-trained three-year-old put the writing on the wall last start and jockey Brett Prebble rectified the situation, giving Encap a lovely steer from barrier one, gaining leaders-back throughout the 1400m feature. Raf Attack ($9.00) set a hot tempo for the eventual winner to tag the back of, while market leader Tom Kitten ($3.80) was far from disgraced, closing into a third-place finish. The lightly raced Ceolwulf ($17.00) was strong through the line for the Joesph Pride barn, whilst Cafe Millennium ($34.00) and Tannhauser ($17.00) both look promising horses to follow heading towards a Group 1 Spring Champion Stakes later in the preparation. It was all honours to the winner, however, as Encap broke his maiden status in style on Saturday.
- Golden Mile ($3.40) has given both James Cummings and Sam Clipperton their maiden Ming Dynasty success at Rosehill. Clipperton settled the son of Astern much closer to the speed than previous outings, as he settled in fifth just two lengths off the leaders. As the field rounded the home turn, Basquiat ($10) took the lead, but Golden Mile tanked up behind him and when Clipperton released the brakes he went straight on by. Matcha Latte ($21) was the best of the swoopers, running over the top of the slowing Basquiat to finish second.
- Chris Waller and James McDonald have combined with Coastwatch ($3.80) to take out the 2021 edition of the Group 3 Ming Dynasty at Kembla Grange. After settling just behind the speed, which was set by Military Expert ($5.50) and Subterranean ($6), McDonald pressed the button on his gelding to burst through a gap and challenge the leader. Military Expert and Coastwatch battled it out down the home straight, but the class of the eventual winner got him through, winning by just under a length on the line.
- After giving his nearest rival 3kg in the weights, Holyfield ($10) has led all the way to take out the 2020 Group 3 Ming Dynasty at Rosehill. Tim Clark took the son of I Am Invincible to the lead, and after getting away with a mid-race breather, Holyfield was able to fill up his lungs and kick clear at the top of the home straight to record a dominant win. The race favourite Overlord ($2.60) had no answer, as he and Bazooka ($9.50) made up some ground from the back, but never worried the eventual winner.
- Nine years after combining to win the Ming Dynasty Quality with Lion Tamer, Hugh Bowman and Murray Baker were at it again with Quick Thinker ($11). The son of So You Think showed his quality, digging deep to round up Aspect Ratio ($19) and run away with two length victory, with Reformist ($14) sticking on for third a further 1-1/2 lengths behind the runner-up.
