Where Lismore Turf Club – 9A Woodlawn Rd, North Lismore NSW 2480
When Thursday, September 22, 2022
First Race 12:50pm AEST

It is Lismore Cup Day when racing heads to the Lismore Turf Club on Thursday afternoon, and HorseBetting’s New South Wales form expert presents his betting preview for the eight-race card. Despite the track coming up a Good 3 as of Wednesday morning, there is plenty of rain forecast in the lead-up to the meeting, so it will be pay dividends to back some mudlarks. Lismore Cup Day gets under at 12:50pm AEST.

Lismore Cup Top Tip – Stuck With You

The formidable duo of Matthew Dunn and Matthew McGuren looks the one to be with in the Lismore Cup when they combine with Stuck With You in the 2110m feature event. The seven-year-old gelding finished within a half-length of Seat Of Power at Doomben last time out when leading the field up, before being gun downed in the shadows of the winning post. The seven-year-old gelding showed his tactical versatility when saluting over the Murwillumbah 2020m on August 19 and considering this is no harder than his recent races, Stuck With You clearly looks the one to beat in the Lismore Cup. From barrier six, look for McGuren to land this bloke in the moving line with cover and when asked for an effort we expect him to prove too good for this lot and in doing so book his spot in the ballot for The Big Dance.

Best Bet at Lismore – Rhythm Is A Dancer

Brett Cavanough sends his four-year-old gelding Rhythm Is A Dancer to the Lismore 1410m where he will be hoping it is ninth time the charm. The son of Sir Prancealot has placed in three of his four starts this time in and has not finished worse than fourth in any of those starts. His racing manners cost him victory at Scone on September 6 when climbing all over his rivals over 1200m and when asked for an effort in the home straight, simply could not run straight. If he settles better on Thursday and can run in a straight line in the home straight, Rhythm Is A Dancer is racing in more than good enough form to take out a maiden race that he strikes at Lismore.

Next Best at Lismore – Swanston

With a bit of luck, we can kick off the day on a winning note when the Greg Kilner-trained Swanston steps out in the opening event over 1526m. The five-year-old gelding has been in a rich vein of form, winning his last two races and looks well-placed to continue that run of form in this. The five-year-old gelding has an imposing wet track record of 25: 7-4-3 and with the forecast rain expected to have already set in, this son of Smart Missile is set to gain conditions to suit. From barrier seven, Tegan Harrison will look to have this bloke lead the field up and under a well-rated steer, we expect Swanston to prove too hard to run down.
