Willie Mullins has currently not won the Melbourne Cup, however will have two opportunities with Vauban and Absurde set to race in the 2023 Melbourne Cup.

Irish trainer Willie Mullins will have two runners in the 2024 Melbourne Cup, with Vauban and Absurde returning to Flemington after poor showings in 2023.

Mullins has a long history in the Melbourne Cup, having first attended the race when backpacking in 1993, when Irish stayer Vintage Crop romped home in front of a capacity crowd.

Since then, Mullins has had many runners in the Melbourne Cup, with Max Dynamite, who finished second in 2015 and 2017, the closest he has come to winning the 3200m staying feature.

But 2024 could be Mullins’ year, with a couple of the top bookies chances’ for the Melbourne Cup, coming from his stable.
