Canterbury Friday night racing tips & quaddie | January 17, 2025
What | Canterbury Races |
Where | Canterbury Park Racecourse – King Street, Canterbury NSW 2193 |
When | Friday, January 17, 2025 |
First Race | 5:40pm AEDT |
Evening racing continues at Canterbury Park Racecourse on Friday, with a competitive seven-part program awaiting locals for family night. The rail moves out +3m the entire circuit, and with heavy rainfall forecast leading into the meeting, punters can expect a genuine Heavy surface throughout the night. All the action is scheduled to get underway at 5:40pm AEDT.
Best Bet at Canterbury: Storm The Ramparts
Nobody missed the run of Storm The Ramparts returning at Randwick on Boxing Day and should be forgiven for a disappointing outing. The son of Headwater was placed three-and-four wide throughout the contest, forced to do a mount of work from towards the rear of the field in the concluding stages. The testing conditions should be no issue for the lightly raced four-year-old, and with barrier one allowing Adam Hyeronimus to take luck out of the equation, punters can expect a much-improved version of Storm The Ramparts in the Canterbury finale.
Best Bet
Race 7 – #4 Storm The Ramparts (1)
4yo Gelding | T: Joseph Pride | J: Adam Hyeronimus (59.5kg)
Next Best at Canterbury: Automne Tree
Automne Tree is one of three Chris Waller-trained debutants in the opening event of the program and appears set to peak in this first-up assignment. The Autumn Sun gelding trialled alongside stable companion and race rival, Gatekeeper, with the former narrowly getting the verdict. Both appear to have potential stakes quality about them; however, with Automne Tree set to be aided by the 3kg claim of apprentice Benjamin Osmond, this guy should prove hard to hold out as he powers down the centre of the course.
Next Best
Race 1 – #1 Automne Tree (6)
3yo Gelding | T: Chris Waller | J: Benjamin Osmond (a3kg) (59kg)
Best Value at Canterbury: Shanoni
Shanoni caught the eye in a recent barrier trial at Rosehill on January 7 when hardly asked for an effort as she careered through the line behind Myola. She got to within a half-length on that occasion and easily could’ve taken over had James McDonald persuaded the unraced three-year-old. The Chris Waller barn has booked Benjamin Osmond to be legged aboard for race-day with McDonald taking the reins on The Stars, and although the pair look hardest to beat, punters should be happy to lean in favour of Shanoni at the price with horse racing bookmakers.
Best Value
Race 2 – #4 Shanoni (4)
3yo Filly | T: Chris Waller | J: Benjamin Osmond (a3kg) (58.5kg)
