Bendigo racing preview

What Bendigo Races
Where Bendigo Jockey Club – Heinz St, White Hills VIC 3550
When Wednesday, September 27, 2023
First Race 1pm AEST

Wednesday horse racing in Victoria heads to the Bendigo Jockey Club with a stacked nine-race program set down for decision. A perfect spring day is forecast for Bendigo, and with the track already rated a Good 4, we expect an upgrade to a Good 3 at some stage. The rail sticks in the true position the entire circuit, with racing commencing at 1pm AEST.

Best Bet at Bendigo – Celui

The Brent Stanley-trained Celui has not been seen since he was well beaten in the Inglis Millennium (1100m). He returns to the Bendigo 1000m, the track and trip where he broke his maiden on debut in dominant fashion. Damien Oliver hops on board for the first time, and from barrier four, the pair should have no issue finding the rail upon settling. From there, Celui should prove too hard to gun down.

Best Bet

Race 4 – Silk #5 Celui (4)

Next Best at Bendigo – Karalee Rocks

Karalee Rocks has a perfect first-up record, winning all three starts when fresh. On her Victorian debut at Geelong on April 7, the Flying Artie mare descended on her rivals late to score in jaw-dropping fashion. She would then go on to chase subsequent stakes winner Barbie’s Fox at Sandown and was far from disgraced. The 1300m is a slight query, but with a thunderous turn of foot, Karalee Rocks should prove too hard to hold out in the penultimate.

Next Best

Race 8 – Silk #5 Karalee Rocks (7)

5yo Mare | T: Lindsey Smith | J: Beau Mertens (56.5kg)

Best Value at Bendigo – Et Tu Brute

We will be looking to kick off the day in style as the Anthony & Sam Freedman-trained Et Tu Brute steps up to the 1500m. The three-year-old was only getting warm late over 1300m when first-up from a spell at Sandown, so the rise in trip looks ideal at this stage of his campaign. From barrier three, he draws to gain an economical run in transit, and if he can replicate the competitive stakes form shown in his juvenile campaign, Et Tu Brute could be a great play in the opener.

Best Value

Race 1 – Silk #4 Et Tu Brute (3)

3yo Colt | T: Anthony & Sam Freedman | J: Daniel Moor (58kg)
