Betting Guide
Date: Saturday, February 8, 2025
Location: Royal Randwick
Prize Money: $2,000,000
Distance: 1100m

The Inglis Millennium (1100m) is a restricted Listed race for two-year-olds conducted under set weight conditions at Royal Randwick Racecourse.

The event is restricted to Inglis Sales graduates.

In 2019, the Inglis Millennium was run for the first time and was won by Castelvecchio who would go on to finish second in the 2019 Cox Plate as a three-year-old.

Before the race was altered and upgraded, it was known as the ‘Inglis Classic’ and was worth $250,000 in prize-money. Additionally, the race was previously contested over 1200 metres.

The Inglis Millennium is the equal second-richest juvenile race (tied with Magic Millions 2YO Classic) behind the Golden Slipper.

Raced at set weights, the colts/geldings carry 56.5kgs and fillies 54.5kg.

Recent Inglis Millennium winners

  • The Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott barn continue to add to their list of well-performed two-year-olds as Fully Lit smashed his rivals in the $2 million Inglis Millennium (1100m). It was the stablemate Trunk leading them up on a break-neck speed, as he and Art’s Alive went head-to-head for the lead, ensuring the back markers would come into play. Fully Lit sat three wide for the entire journey under Regan Bayliss and did a mountain of work from barrier 15, but it didn’t seem to blunt his turn-of-speed as the two-year-old son of Hellbent made a long-sustained run to the first turn. Rue De Royale loomed largely into the picture at the top of the straight and seemed to be prepared to go past the leading trio, while the David Payne-trained Rag Queen was screaming home as he did in his first-up victory. They simply couldn’t match motors with the undefeated colt from the Waterhouse & Bott stable, as his consecutive wins put him well in-play for the Group 1 Golden Slipper (1200m).
  • The Annabel Neasham-trained filly Learning To Fly scored an empathic win in the 2023 Inglis Millennium. The well backed commodity for the Golden Slipper only solidified her favourite status in that race with a dominant win at Randwick in the Inglis Millennium. Jockey Chad Schofield had no choice but to go back from the horror barrier draw; however it was perfect steer to find a three wide line getting the back of well backed filly Blanc De Blanc. The speed was on early and it showed in what was looking to be a blanket finish as several gallopers made their run as seven horses fanned across the track with 200m to go. Lazzago was pushing clear, as was Kundalini and Blanc De Blanc, but it was Learning To Fly the widest of them all producing a thunderous turn-of-foot to take home a massive win and possibly a Ferrari for someone at team Coolmore.
  • The money came for Xtravagant Star in the $2 million Inglis Millennium (1100m) at Royal Randwick and the money was spot on, as she raced away to a convincing win. Trained in South Australia by Tony & Calvin McEvoy, the two-year-old daughter of Xtravagant was heavily backed, firming from $13 into $7 on the back of a narrow maiden win at Geelong on debut. The filly led throughout to win a trial at Randwick over 734m on January 24, which appeared to tip her over perfectly for the restricted sales race. Having landed in a beautiful spot behind the leaders, jockey Chad Schofield made a line of three at the 300m, before racing away from her rivals at the 100m mark.
  • Earlier in the week, Newgate announced they had bought into Profiteer, who started a short-priced favourite in the Millennium, and the pressure was on for the Victorian colt to perform. He did so in breathtaking fashion, showing sustained speed to control The Inglis Millennium in 2021 and rocket clear to score by 5.25 lengths.
  • The race morning scratching of odds-on favourite Cellsabeel paved the way for in-form jockey Tom Marquand to land his biggest payday, winning the $2 million Inglis Millennium aboard Prime Star. The 1100-metre feature was added to the Wednesday program at Warwick Farm after its scheduled Saturday time slot was washed out. The date change prompted the scratching of Golden Slipper favourite and major drawcard Cellsabeel, leaving the Richard and Michael Freedman-trained Prime Star to shine. There was drama pre-race with Fayerra and Slice Of Heaven both late scratchings at the barriers but at the finish it was Marquand and Prime Star ($18) who held the aces. A $55,000 Classic sale purchase, Prime Star overhauled a brave Bella Nipotina ($8.50) by a half neck with luckless Victorian Larimer Street ($19) another three-quarters of a length away.
  • Richard Litt’s perseverance in the tough Sydney training arena has reaped its biggest reward yet with Castelvecchio’s win in the $2 million Inglis Millennium at Warwick Farm. The two-year-old colt signalled his ability when he won at Canterbury on debut but was up against the big stables on Saturday with the Chris Waller-trained Accession ($2.40) and Dawn Passage ($2.70) from the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott stable, dominating the market. On the track it was Castelvecchio ($21) who dominated, charging to the line two lengths ahead of Accession at the end of the 1200m with Dawn Passage another three-quarters of a length third.
