Metro racing returns to Hawkesbury Race Club on Wednesday afternoon, with a quickfire seven-race program set down for decision. All the action is scheduled to get underway at 2:20pm AEDT.
Best Bet at Hawkesbury: Able Yellow
Able Yellow debuts on the back of an impressive barrier trial victory at Kembla Grange on January 30. The son of Justify never came off the bridal in the home straight, cruising through the wire while holding out Lady Yarrow in the concluding stages. Jay Ford will attempt to slot in for cover from stall six, and once asked for the ultimate effort, expect Able Yellow to be putting in the big strides down the centre of the course, justifying favouritism with horse racing bookmakers.
Best Bet
Race 3 – #1 Able Yellow (6)
4yo Gelding | T: Blake Ryan | J: Jay Ford (59kg)
Next Best at Hawkesbury: Sassy Abbey
Sassy Abbey appears primed for a first-up assault as the Bjorn Baker-trained filly makes her debut. She was hard held in a recent barrier trial at Rosehill on February 3, leading all the way before being narrowly headed by Perle De Chocolat in the shadows of the post. Ashley Morgan will look to dictate terms from barrier four, and provided she can tick-over a soft sectional in the middle stages, expect Sassy Abbey to give a bold kick in the final furlong.
Next Best
Race 1 – #9 Sassy Abbey (4)
2yo Filly | T: Bjorn Baker | J: Ashley Morgan (55kg)
Best Value at Hawkesbury: Cavalry
Cavalry hasn’t been asked for much when stretching out at the barrier trials, showing good improvement with every piece of work. The Brutal gelding lengthened to finish 4.8 lengths away from Cosmic Vixen at Rosehill on February 3, showing a good turn of speed when asked by Zac Lloyd. Tyler Schiller takes the reins under race-day conditions, and with Cavalry set to gain the one-one from gate two, this guy should get every chance to make an impression first-up.
Best Value
Race 4 – #3 Cavalry (2)
3yo Gelding | T: Michael, Wayne & John Hawkes | J: Tyler Schiller (58.5kg)
