Wild Ruler retired after Oakleigh Plate disappointment

Group 1-winning four-year-old Wild Ruler has been retired to stud after running ninth in the Oakleigh Plate at Caulfield last Saturday.

The son of Snitzel won six races from 15 career starts, including the $1 million Moir Stakes at Moonee Valley last September.

Trained by Peter & Paul Snowden, Wild Ruler won over $2.6 million in prizemoney thanks to a Group 1 win, two Group 2 wins and two Listed wins throughout his career, while he also finished third in the Coolmore Classic as a three-year-old and ran last in The Everest on an unsuitable wet track.

“Trainer Mr P Snowden has advised Racing NSW Stewards that Wild Ruler has been retired to stud,” Racing NSW posted on Twitter.

“Wagering Operators are requested to remove the horse from all applicable betting markets.”

Wild Ruler held nominations for the Newmarket Handicap (1200m) at Flemington, the T.J. Smith Stakes (1200m) at Randwick and The Galaxy (1100m) at Rosehill over the autumn, but bookmakers have been told to remove the horse from their markets for those Group 1 races.

All six of his wins came on Good-rated surfaces, while he won over distances of 1000m (2), 1100m (2) and 1200m (2).

Owned predominantly by China Horse Club and Newgate Farm, Wild Ruler is set to stand at Newgate in the upcoming breeding season for a still-to-be-confirmed fee.
