The Group 1 Robert Sangster sees a big field of 17 sprinters compete for the $500,000 in the joint-featured event on Morphettville’s card on Saturday afternoon. It is $6 the field with local rising star Instant Celebrity the favourite for the event, but there looks to be plenty of value in the sprint feature. The lead in the race looks to be a bit of a raffle, but we expect to see the likes of Sisstar and Night Raid to be close to the speed, with Brooklyn Hustle, Prophet’s Thumb and Instant Celebrity expected to be towards the rear of the field.
Brooklyn Hustle is yet to run a drum in seven Group 1 starts, but Saturday looks to be set up perfectly for her to claim her Group 1 win. Despite drawing the wide barrier of 15 she was always going to be jagged back to the rear of the field by Mark Zahra, so it should prove no detriment to her chances. There is no denying her ability; she just continues to find herself in tricky situations. This will be her first appearance at Morphettville and with the long home straight she should have plenty of time to build through the gears and finish right over the top of this field.
Lyre is heading to the breeding barn at the end of this campaign, and will be looking to add to her Group 1 win in the Blue Diamond Stakes two years ago. Ironically it was the last time she tasted success, but she rarely runs a bad race. There was no finer example of that, when she finished a length off her rival that she meets again here in Sisstar in the Bel Esprit Stakes when doing her best work late. The step up to 1200m, third up from a spell, and with two runner up performances to her name already this campaign she should be fighting out the finish.
Another one to follow is the Anthony Cummings-trained Mizzy, who three starts back went within a whisker of taking out the Canterbury Stakes behind Savatiano. She then backed up that effort with a second-placed finish in the Coolmoore Classic behind Krone before finding the 1500m in the George Ryder Stakes a step too far. Dropping back from the 1500m to 1200m, and from barrier one, she will be hard to hold out.
