Treasurethe Moment bolts clear in Group 2 Kewney Stakes

Treasurethe Moment has shown her class by dominating her rivals in the Group 2 Kewney Stakes (1600m) at Flemington, cruising to victory under Damian Lane.
The Matt Laurie-trained filly was sent around as a long odds-on -200 favourite with Dabble, and she didn’t dissapoint her backers second-up for the campaign.
London’s Image (+2000) did her thing at the front, leading the rest of the field by three lengths, with Too Darn Lizzie (+1400) settling in second ahead of She Nailed It (+20000), Captured By Love (+1500) and the eventual winner.
Spinning the home turn, Too Darn Lizzie quickly took over from London’s Image, but within a couple of strides, Treasurethe Moment went straight on by as Lane asked her to quicken.
Treasurethe Moment careered away from her rivals at the 200m mark, and once Lane produced the whip, she continued to run away with the race to record an ultra-impressive 2.25-length win over Too Darn Lizzie and Sneaky Sunrise (+900).
Matt Laurie was very relieved after his star filly claimed another win.
“It is obviously very exciting but I am relieved,” Laure said.
“The writing was on the wall that this could be a great race for her second-up, but Damian was able to slot her in perfectly and the way she travelled up, she just takes herself there, and you know she’s got so much under the bonnet.
“The world is her oyster.
“This is clearly the best horse we’ve had and we’ve had a few handy ones over the years but she’s next level.
“A mile at Flemington really suited, but I was a little bit nervous before the race.
“She’ll go to Sydney, and we might give her a really quiet trial the reverse way so so she gets a feel for going in the opposite direction, but 2000-metres third-up looks exciting.
“She galloped last Saturday the reverse way at Mornington and she really took to it very well.
“We’ll get through this, keep her to mare’s grade and get as many races as we can. Then she’s against the big boys, so to speak, in the spring.”
Damian Lane was just as relieved following the victory.
“Matty has turned her out in great order again and she’s come on from her first-up run,” Lane said.
“I was always confident in the run and she won accordingly.
“We know what she really enjoys 2000-metre, and she’ll get that next start in a group one and hopefully onto the Oaks after that.
“Two really nice races against a little stiffer opposition but the way she’s handling herself, you’d have to be confident that she’s going to run well.”
