Darwin Turf Club
Darwin Turf Club is the home of the Fannie Bay Racecourse, located seven minutes from the Darwin CBD and 10 minutes from the Darwin airport. The track is 1780m in circumference with a 340m home straight, and although no Group races take place in the Top End the Darwin Cup Carnival is one of the big occasions on the Australian racing calendar.

Major horse races at Fannie Bay racecourse
There are eight meetings at Fannie Bay starting on the first Saturday in July with the $135,000 NT Derby (2050m) and $135,000 Palmerston Sprint (1200m) among the feature races before 20,000 patrons front for the $200,000 Darwin Cup (2050m) on the first Monday in August.

Fannie Bay is a sand and oiled based surface and considering it accommodates 38 meetings a year and up to 80-100 horses for track work six days a week it is constantly maintained, especially during the wet season.
Darwin Racing Club history
The 1988 Bicentennial Darwin Cup was the first $100,000 race staged in the NT, a remarkable feat for the DTC after being decimated by Cyclone Tracy in 1974.
Apart from a new grandstand at Fannie Bay, the popular licenced Silks club is one other recent addition at the top of the home straight. The on-course TAB Pavilion is also a first class facility.
Aside from a training pool, new tie-up stables and a refurbished mounting yard ensures that Fannie Bay is an outstanding racing complex. The Cup Carnival is arguably the biggest sporting event in the NT and is a “bucket list” must for the horse racing fanatic.
Darwin and Alice Springs are the two horse racing tracks in the Northern Territory.
