The Thoroughbred Breeders Stakes is a Group 3 race for two-year-old fillies, run over 1200m at Flemington under set weights with penalties.
Conducted by the Victoria Racing Club, the Thoroughbred Breeders Stakes was first held in 1971 as the Bloodhorse Breeders Plate and took on its current name in 2001.
Originally run over 1400m until 1995, the Thoroughbred Breeders Stakes was shortened to 1200m in 1999.
The Thoroughbred Breeders Stakes held Group 2 status from 1980 to 1998 before becoming a Group 3 race in 1999. The Thoroughbred Breeders Stakes has always been run at Flemington, except in 2007 when it was held at Caulfield racecourse.
The 2024 Thoroughbred Breeders Stakes, worth $200,000, was won by Tobeornottobe, defeating Ameena and Yes Lulu.

- Tobeornottobe ($6.00) backed up her strong form lines to break her maiden when taking out the Group 3 Thoroughbred Breeders Stakes down the Flemington straight. After finishing second in a close photo on debut in the Group 3 Blue Diamond Preview, the Robbie Griffiths & Mathew de Kock-trained filly then finished fourth in the Group 2 Blue Diamond Prelude, the winner clearly brought the best form of any of her rivals. In the running, there was a group of five running up the inside of the track, led by race favourite Ameena ($2.25), and Tobeornottobe led a group of four up the outside of the straight. However, as the whips began to crack it was the daughter of Pierata who got the better of the wayward favourite in the final 200m and she pulled clear late to win by 1.5 lengths on the line.
- At her second career start, Bossy Nic for Tony & Calvin McEvoy put a gap on the 2023 Group 3 Thoroughbred Breeders Stakes field, after getting a great ride from Dean Holland. The daughter of Nicconi ran second in the Listed Cinderella Stakes at Morphettville on debut behind Show Royale, and backed it up with a Group 3 win down the Flemington straight. After jumping from barrier two, Holland settled his filly behind the leaders on the inside of the track and as the field hit the course proper and he pushed the button, Bossy Nic exploded and ran away from the rest of the field to put two lengths on the field by the 200m mark. There wasn’t a lot of support around for the winner, as she jumped at $9 with online bookmakers, however, she won like she was an even money chance, recording a dominant 2.5 length victory.
- Ciaron Maher & David Eustace teamed up with jockey Jaime Kah to take out the 2022 Group 3 Thoroughbred Breeders Stakes (1200m) with Ruthless Dame. The two-year-olds came up the middle of the straight for the Group 3 worth $200,000, with Kah giving her mount a lovely run in behind the leading horses. Kah peeled out at the 300m to ask her runner for an effort, the daughter of Tavistock had to dig deep, as the Peter Moody-trained Nanagui challenged over the concluding stages, but Ruthless Dame was able to kick-back strongly to score a gutsy win.
