Recent Theo Marks Stakes results
- Gary Portelli and Jason Collett combined with Encap ($7.50) claiming victory in the Group 2 Theo Marks Stakes (1300m) at Rosehill, marking a year to the day of his last victory coming in the 2023 Ming Dynasty Quality (1400m). The son of Capitalist was second-up after a gallant first-up display behind Jolistar in the Group 3 Show County Quality (1200m) at Randwick on August 24. He was made to work for the victory in a blanket finish on Saturday, however, with Bases Loaded ($4.00) showing a clean pair of heels in the final 400m despite leading out at a relatively strong tempo. Rediener ($34.00) and Boom Torque ($6.00) were both doing sensational work late, but were unable to reel in Encap, chalking up just his second win heading into his four-year-old season.
- Nash Rawiller and James Cummings have combined for victory in the Group 2 Theo Marks Stakes at Rosehill, as Golden Mile ($8.00) proved too strong. It was a much-deserved win for the son of Astern after two luckless performances hindered his campaign in the Group 2 Missile Stakes and Group 1 Winx Stakes. It was a perfect rail hugging ride from jockey Nash Rawiller who cut the corner, ensuring there would be no bad luck from the inside draw (6). Now with a Group level win against the older horses, Golden Mile can press on with the preparation knowing he’s a ready-made stallion prospect in retirement.
- The Chris Waller-trained Kiku flew home down the outside to nab Mr Mozart ($3.60) and Prime Candidate ($11) in the 2022 Theo Marks Stakes at Rosehill. The five-year-old mare by Zoustar was sent out as an $18 hope with online bookmakers, but when the race favourites Mr Mozart and Ellsberg didn’t get ideal runs in transit, it set it up for the fast-finishing Kiku and Jason Collett to thunder home out wide. The win gave Chris Waller his fifth Theo Marks Stakes in the last 10 editions.
- The John Thompson-trained Chat has caused a boil over in the Theo Marks Stakes, as the $31 outsider with most online bookmakers, finished over the top of Embracer ($15) in the final strides of the race. The odds-on race favourite Big Parade ($1.95) led the field up to the home turn, but as he reached the 300m mark, Embracer was looming large and went straight on by. Just when the Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott-trained gelding appeared to have the race within his keeping, Chat let down with an explosive turn of foot and reeled in the leader with 50m to go.
- The Hawkes team and Tommy Berry combined with the heavily supported Wild Planet ($5.50) to take out the Theo Marks Stakes at Rosehill. After settling in sixth on the back of the race favourite Funstar ($3.90), the son of Animal Kingdom found a bit of trouble, but with the help of Berry, he found a needle eye gap to burst through. When Wild Planet got through the gap, he cut down the margin on Funstar and recorded a half-length victory, while Ranier ($12) flashed home and nabbed third place.
- At her first start on the Eastern seaboard for Chris Waller, Arcadia Queen ($1.95) took out the Theo Marks Stakes as the raging favourite. McDonald settled the Western Australian star mare in third behind the leaders, and as the field rounded the home turn, he got her off the fence to chase down the runaway leader, Deploy ($21). The daughter of Pierro defeated the fast-finishing second favourite Trope ($5.50) and Gem Song ($15).
