Sovereign Nation stays best to win Lloyd Williams Hall Of Fame

HAYES and Dabernig-trained Sovereign Nation has produced another spectacular first-up effort to take out the Lloyd Williams Hall Of Fame at Flemington.
Under a patient ride from Daniel Stackhouse the $7.40 elect at Sportsbet.com.au camped just off the speed and was taken to the middle of the track at the perfect moment to burn off the field and win its second first-up race in four attempts.

Four-year-old Well Sprung ($2.50 at WilliamHill.com.au) made up late ground but never truly troubled the leader, while Tucanchoo produced a huge run for the Hawkes team to return $8.20 at Crownbet.com.au.

The Lindsay Park team will be hoping the win for Sovereign Nation will be a sign of things to come after the four-year-old was gelded during a five month absence from the track.
The talented yet inconsistent former stallion had not won since October of 2015, but maintained a great run of early preparation form which has seen every win the horse has recorded coming in the first three runs after a spell.
