The North Island of New Zealand is hosting another race meeting on Saturday, with the action at Ruakaka kicking off at 12:45pm NZST. There are eight races carded on what is likely to be a soft surface with fine weather forecast on the day.
BEST BET AT RUAKAKA – CHEVRON
Trainer Chris Gibbs hardly ever leaves Ruakaka without a winner, and Chevron looks hard to beat in race five. This six-year-old gelding by El Roca is nearing peak fitness and is running over his favourite distance of 2100m. He will appreciate the soft conditions and also the track, where he has previously had 12 starts for three wins and seven minor placings. There should be a good win price on this horse to be found with jockey Michael McNab doing the riding.

NEXT BEST AT RUAKAKA – CAKEBYTHEOCEAN
In race six, the Chris Gibbs-trained Cakebytheocean will be hoping to improve on his last-start second. He has good form on the course and is stepping up to a distance of 1600m, where he has previously had two starts for two wins. The soft track will aid his chances and top jockey Opie Bosson will be doing the riding on this six-year-old gelding by Ocean Park. Ideally from barrier three he will be on the pace early and be very hard to beat at a nice price.

NEXT BEST AGAIN AT RUAKAKA – MISCHIEF MANAGED
In race eight, Mischief Managed is stepping up to the longer trip of 2100m – a distance where she should excel having competed well against stronger opposition in the New Zealand Oaks over 2400m previously. The soft going that is forecast will also be in her favour.
