Where Rosehill Gardens Racecourse – James Ruse Dr, Rosehill NSW 2142
When Saturday, April 3, 2021
First Race 12:45pm AEDT
Feature Race Race 7: Tancred Stakes

Rosehill Gardens will see nine races run and won on Saturday, including the Group 1 Vinery Stud Stakes and the Group 1 Tancred Stakes, as well as some key lead ups to races over The Championships which will be run at Royal Randwick over the next fortnight. The track is rated an improving Soft 5, with the chance of an upgrade before Saturday, while the rail will be out six metres for the entire circumference of the course. The first of nine is set to jump at 12:45pm AEDT. Horsebetting.com.au has done the form on every race, as well as best bets and Quaddie numbers.

Race 1 – Group 3 Schweppervescence (1400M)

The first race of the day sees a big field of two-year-olds contest this Group 3 event over 1400m. Mr Mozart was our value selection in his only start to date which saw him win well at Warwick Farm by a length over 1100m off the back of a nice trial win. He has drawn the car park on Saturday in barrier 17, but we are confident that Kerrin McEvoy can find a midfield spot with cover to give this Snitzel colt every chance. With a big run here, he could be one to follow towards the Champagne Stakes at the back end of the Carnival. Conrad is the clear danger and a deserved favourite off a four-length victory last time out.
Selections: 7-6-2-4

Race 2 – Group 3 Neville Selwood Stakes (2000m)

Next Best Bet Of The Day
A field of 10 stayers will contest the Neville Selwood Stakes over a mile and a quarter, with the top three horses down the page taking up most of the market percentage. Shared Ambition defeated Mount Popa first-up who has since won the Mornington Cup franking the form, so we are going to side with the Chris Waller-trained gelding in this. He was a fast-finishing runner-up to Paradee in the Group 2 Peter Young Stakes at Caulfield, before he was given hardly any hope in the Australian Cup on March 6. Back in grade and down 4kg in weight has to be an advantage under James McDonald.
Selections: 3-1-2-8

Race 3 – Group 2 Tulloch Stakes (2000m)

Three-year-old colts and geldings have their last chance to gain a start in next week’s Group 1 ATC Derby at Randwick, with the winner of this exempt from ballot. This race has held the key to next weekend’s feature, with the last four winners of the Tulloch Stakes going on to win the ATC Derby just seven days later. We are confident that Young Werther and The Frontman will fight this one out, with the former coming off a solid hit out in unsuitable conditions behind Grandslam last start at Moonee Valley. On to a dry track could see him have an edge over NZ Derby third place-getter, The Frontman on Saturday.
Selections: 3-2-6-1

Race 4 – Group 2 Emancipation Stakes (1500m)

A solid field of mares will line up against each other in this with all eyes on the Group 1 Coolmore Legacy and potentially a Doncaster with these runners. Krone has been brilliant in her last three, winning the Magic Millions Fillies & Mares Classic on the Gold Coast, before winning the Group 2 Guy Walter and Group 1 Coolmore Classic. While she will be hard to beat, her SP profile makes it hard for us to back her in this, so we are siding with Matthew Smith’s quality four-year-old, Nimalee. The daughter of So You Think was a terrific winner first-up over 1400m, racing away to win by nearly two lengths on February 20. She has had a trial in between to be wound up for this, and she gets the run of the race from barrier one.
Selections: 10-1-2-5

Race 5 – Group 3 Star Kingdom Stakes (1200m)

Best Bet Of The Day
Peter & Paul Snowden saddle up California Zimbol in what is a wide open affair. The four-year-old daughter of I Am Invincible was a good winner of the Group 3 McCarten Stakes first-up, beating Easy Eddie and Order of Command who has since run second at Group 1 level behind Eduardo, which is seriously good form. This mare is undefeated at Rosehill and will be appreciative of the Soft 5/Good 4. Three from four second-up wins is terrific, and she gets every single favour from barrier five under Mark Zahra who knows this girl well.
Selections: 6-3-9-11

Race 6 – Group 1 Vinery Stud Stakes (2000m)

The first of the Group 1s sees a field of 10 three-year-old fillies contest the $500,000 event. We are siding with the favourite here in Harmony Rose, who ran a very credible third behind Lion’s Roar and subsequent Rosehill Guineas winner, Mo’unga last time out in the Randwick Guineas. Drawn barrier one under Josh Parr, she looks to be the sole leader in the race and can make every post a winner. Miravalle was brilliant in winning the Kembla Grange Classic last time out and looks ready for the 2000m, while the lightly raced Princess Rhaenys looks a natural galloper who can cause an upset at start three.
Selections: 2-6-10-3

Race 7 – Group 1 Tancred Stakes (2400m)

The second and final Group 1 of the day is the Tancred Stakes to be run over a mile and a half. A number of quality horses are engaged to do battle in this $1.5M race, including star Kiwi mare Melody Belle, Cox Plate winning entire Sir Dragonet as well as Group 1 winners in Toffee Tongue, Angel of Truth, Mirage Dancer and Shraaoh; it will be a cracker! Toffee Tongue was too good for the likes of Colette in the Sky High Stakes on the March 13 so we are going to jump on board the four-year-old in this. Under Tom Marquand from barrier two, she should get plenty of favours in the run and be coming through the pack at the right time. A drying track is all the more better too. Angel of Truth was super on the weekend when third to Verry Elleegant and Addeybb, so he should be included, while Nickajack Cave makes his long awaited Australian debut.
Selections: 13-9-8-11

Race 8 – Group 3 Doncaster Prelude (1500m)

The Doncaster Prelude offers the golden ticket into next Saturday’s feature mile event, and it is set to be a ripper. After the Hawkes-trained Rock rattled home into third in the Group 2 Ajax Stakes on March 13, it is hard to go past him here given that he is three from three when second-up. Three weeks between runs should be ideal for this galloper who loves 1500m. The chances don’t end there however, with the likes of Subedar looking for three straight wins, and Yao Dash who should get a nice time of it in the lead.
Selections: 4-15-13-11

Race 9 – Benchmark 88 Handicap (1400m)

Best Value Bet Of The Day
The final race of the afternoon sees a capacity field and one runner we are keen to back both now and in the Provincial Championships Final in Great News. The four-year-old Kim Waugh-trained mare is yet to miss the placings in nine career runs, with five wins and four minor placings. By Uncle Mo, she absolutely relished 1200m first-up at Gosford, winning the Provincial Championship Qualifier by over two lengths. She has had one go at 1400m where she was successful, and gets regular rider Jay Ford on again. She can be winning this. Also keen to see Sea The Stars import Zeyrek step out for Michael, Wayne and John Hawkes.
Selections: 12-8-2-9
