Randwick racing tips & best bets – Saturday, 5 September 2020

Man Of Peace

For the first time in what seems an eternity, we are racing on a Good 4 on Saturday at Royal Randwick. We have three Group 2 races in the quaddie with the Furious Stakes, Chelmsford Stakes and Tramway Stakes, all of which boast quality runners that should feature prominently throughout the spring.

The main event, however, is the Group 3 Concorde Stakes, where star sprinter Nature Strip resumes and goes head-to-head with Gytrash. It’s expected to be a proper sprint, and do not be surprised if we see the track record broken if Nature Strip can get his way up front.

Strap yourselves in for the best card of the season so far. The first is set to jump at 12:15pm AEST, and that is where you will find our best bet.

Saturday racing tips for Royal Randwick

Best Bet
Race 1 – Athiri @ $2.90 Neds

We could have easily gone with Nature Strip as the best bet, but you wouldn’t tip Winx every week because you would rather sit back and enjoy the show. That’s why we have Godolphin mare Athiri as our best of the day in the first race. It looked like she needed the run under her belt last start when resuming as she over-raced and just missed to Fanciful Dream. She goes from a Heavy 10 to a Good 4, which should help. With James McDonald staying on board from barrier one, Athiri will prove hard to hold out in what is hopefully a bank-building start to the day.

Next Best
Race 8 – Dreamforce @ $4.40 Neds

The John Thompson-trained gelding was a complete forgive run in the Group 1 Winx Stakes when well beaten on resumption. He had a lot of work to do early in that race, but he should be able to settle in a nice position from barrier seven here. Nash Rawiller back on board is a huge bonus. With seven of the 11 runners first up for the preparation, Dreamforce may just have a fitness edge on this lot.

Best Value
Race 7 – Shared Ambition @ $10/$3 EW Neds

Arguably one of the best stayers in the country comes into this after a complete forgive run on heavy going when first up. We are convinced this gelding just doesn’t like a wet track, so getting back to firmer ground is a huge plus. He is yet to miss the placings on good ground, with three wins from four starts, and is undefeated when second up from three attempts. The slight query is this may be too sharp for the Chris Waller galloper, but we cannot pass up double-figure odds on Shared Ambition.
